Gone With the Wind

Gone With the Wind covers southern US over the period from 1830 to 1866, before the Civil War. It is a small 10×10 map, and uses only early steam locomotives which cannot pull many cars over long distances. There are rich markets in all regions of the map, so the starting point is not of great importance. It is intended to be played with 3 AIs with the goal of meeting all the victory objectives. It features cars, annexes and industries from Slider38’s My Old Ky Home map and Bobby Jancsika’s Maryland and Zimbabwe maps. As well as some reskinned cars and industries. The economy is roughly that of the Old South. So be prepared to transport slaves, tobacco, muskets, and rebel recruits

It is a difficult map.

This map runs at ‘slow speed’ (three times slower than normal), and covers three eras from 1890 to 1932.

In this scenario, there are three types of passengers – 3rd, 2nd, and 1st class. Villages, towns, and cities produce third-class passengers. Towns and cities produce 2nd-class passengers if supplied with 3rd-class passengers. Cities produce 1st-class passengers if supplied with 2nd-class passengers.

The industries that produce raw materials (grain, milk, swine, fish, and wood) also require a supply of third-class passengers in order to produce any output.

While third-class passengers pay very little, they are the essential basis for the entire economy of the map, and thus a valuable resource. Take advantage of the available chains of production to increase supply, to make available higher-value-added cargo, and to achieve the scenario goals.

You can also increase supply by building service buildings in the communities. Hotels, ticket offices, restaurants, post offices, and railway express agencies will increase the value and supply of passengers, mail, or express cargo.

Say hello to western Russia! Here we will follow the great Russian Empire from her initial dabbling with railroads in 1841 until the Soviet Union’s last push to modernize in 1985.

Altogether I am pretty happy with the terrain and balance! The scenario is in its final version and the objectives have been balanced for difficulty and expansion, I think. Time moves 80% as fast as a normal map, so it should give players more time to plan out their excellent Russian railroads.

This was going to be a SMR mod replicating some of RRT3’s tactical and strategical richness. I found out the hard way that the programs are simply too different to replicate scenarios.

So here is a fresh East Africa scenario, inspired by RRT3 German East Africa and by Thomas Vincente’s Spain.

I hope you like it! Money is tight only in the first era, after that, the main challenge is getting the logistics right. I have completed it sucessfully in the easy Investor and Financier modes, but perhaps someone can do better? Up to 3 AI players can be added for some mayhem, but be careful not to neglect the main goals when buying up the competition.

Version 1.2 has improved victory conditions, better scenery and tunnels, and Independence celebrations for Juba, capital of new country Southern Sudan in 2011. More screenshots in the original forum topic: /forums/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=4240&p=49782

Start Young People On Railroads! This map is intended to entertain the young folks. I started this after reading a post stating that someone got back into SMR because their 2 year old enjoyed watching the trains. So here’s one to try with your child or grandchild. You can play the whole scenario in 30 to 40 minutes.

The stars of our show:

This was designed for the entertainment of young folks and to be played as a solo map or in Table Top mode. That said, there are 4 starting locations so play against AI is possible. No testing against AI was done. While I know the map will function with AI, I have no idea what the playability with them would be. This map is not difficult and was not meant to be. It was designed to hopefully make a child smile. My youngest grandson is visiting in a couple of weeks and I look forward to showing it to him. Money should not be an issue in this scenario. Delivery of some mail and passengers should keep the funds flowing. And then there are the diamonds…. Enjoy.
