Basin & Range is a truly awesome map so awesome that it is the only map on this site not to use the SAM format. Instead it uses an installer, two actually one is the map and the second is a patch. The 7-zip file included in this post contains four files, all four must be uncompressed into the same folder. Just like with a SAM you must have the “My Games/Sid Meiers Railroads!” folder empty. Once you have done these steps simply luanch the exes and install the map. Note a DOS window will open, do not be alarmed this is simply the program for extracting the files.
This is one of the first Custom maps, which defined many (most) of the future mapmaking. The trains, traincars, ports, transfer stations are still widely used.
Also the scenario requirements added a new dimension to the game, that the original Firaxis design is lacking.
Yes I aggree, this map is one that everyone should play. It introduced so much to moodding, (if I remember right) it was the first to use custom buildings(the port) and custom trains.
i wish someone can make an extension of this map, with more cities

This is the second time I’ve tried to play this scenario/map. After constructing the first connection to any city or industry, then adding an annex or station, and finally intializing a route. I can then NOT DO ANYTHING. Can’t add spurs, parallel track, stations, nothing.
What could the problem be? No conflicting sam’s installed, in a clean railroads folder setup. The installer run and the patch too. 3g enabled railroads.exe…. ??
Hhhmm, I’ve never encountered that bug before. Are you sure you have the money? Could it be the game doing heavy calculations?

Its not a money issue. I don’t think, theres plenty of cashflow, I know that any track shows red when there’s not enough cash. Regardless of the start point, this happens. It’s at the beginning of the game – first industry connection,, then zip, nada.. I’ve had it happen with another custom map like this one.. I think it was India?
I’m stumped…
Can you play most other maps? I cannot think of anything which might be causing this, even on the map side.

The map is working… I believe it WAS a money issue, I reinstalled and played ata slower dev rate, and Voila, problem solved.

Ok, I have a problem useing my map for the Basin And Range. Ok for Some weird reason the bottom part of the mag is all like staticy and well i did everything right but its doing that with the rails and the terrain. Could anyone tell me how to fix this problem
The first train’s maintenance costs quite a lot. The two new trains “Santa Fe Super Chief” are not so expensive but I cannot add a milk cars to them. Has anyone also experienced that ?

The map is unbalanced. If you appear at the south then it’s unable to complete first era’s objectives as Robber Baron.
To your first question, some engines are Passenger/Mail only and will haul nothing else. You must use a freight engine to haul the freight.
To your second, that is not uncommon in several if not many maps. Quit and start again til you get a different starting point.
Where do you start this map? I’ve installed it with the installer but it doesn’t appear anywhere in the map directory.
Hello, I have done everything that I should do, but when i try to start the map, either the loading screen “freezes”(nothing happens) or i get a message saying “Railroads exe have stopped working”, I also sometimes get a runtime error. Is there somehting I have done wrong? I have installed both setups, including the patch.
Does anyone have the version where the files are in folders manually? Because I use a mac

mean Maps – Basin & Range – smrsimple is kinda plain. You
ought to look at Yahoo’s home page and note how they create post titles to grab viewers to click.
You might add a video or a related pic or two to grab
people excited about everything’ve got to say. Just my opinion, it could bring your posts

First off, where did you get it from the internet? That alone may be the reason for it not working.
The files should go here: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier’s Railroads!\UserMaps Your CustomAssets folder here: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier’s Railroads!\CustomAssets should be empty.
i got the game with MEGAsync.And i have the sid meier’s railroads files in that direction and my custom assets folder is empty .Next ?
i made it work but after i play 20-30 mins the game crash(something about runtime). Help ?
