FPK..

Post by Kenster » Sun Oct 28, 2007 9:30 pm

Well the only thing I found out is that the FPK files are encrypted as Mike (atani) said.
I seems it's a distributed key management via threshold cryptography, and "blinding". A secure storage and retrieval of information (SSRI), set up for the file shearing system.
Direct2drive passed the buck to 2K Games. (Big surprise there)

Maybe Wal*Mart has it (SMR) in their rot bin for $10. It looks like that will be my only way to get unpackable FPK files.
Unless Mike finds a way to separate the encryption or 2K sends them to me.

I'll try to work with the files I do have via modded FPK files.
Snoopy hooked me up with a good copper industries that just needs a little tweeking. So I'll work on that for now and hopefuly get a New England Final out and then New England Big (15x15)

The NIFSCOPE editor program.
If you look at the picture in the first posting by gforce, the left side of the picture is an XML file. It is here that we want to change the reference from Hospital to Milbases. Instead of picking through the list with NIFSCOPE you can edit with Notepad++ or any search and replace text editor. I just did it. I don’t yet know if it will be OK I am hoping so.
Does anybody know about this???

I've done it for several NIF/KFM?KF sets. I use a free program called "1-4a Rename". Another thing I've found, you don't have to use the same numbber of charactors. There is also very little real changes you need to make. You have to change the diff.DDS file, but the other three can be left alone if you are only editing the diff.DDS file. You can change the name of the NIFs and the KFMs, but you don't need to change the names of the KFs. In the KFMs you do need to edit the reference to the NIF.

If you look in Construction Set, the second from the bottom is a tutorial I did on it. At that time I did change all or the files names, but have since found out what I said above. This doesn't mena you can't, it just uses less space.

As soon as I find the time from all the other things I'm doing, I'll edit it.

It works. I have just created a Foundry. Now I have to figure out how to make Goods and Traincars to go with it.
But I promised my wife that I’d do the taxes first. So there we go.

In the NIF Editor I am replacing an 8 letter word with a 7 letter. What do I do with leftover eight space, just ignore it, or change it to “00â€

Contrary to Gforces posts, you do not have to keep the number of digits the same. If you look at the Chickpea Farm and the Cotton Farm, they were made from the Grain Elevator. The number of letters in not important, but getting the file names in the FPK (or folder) to match the ones in the NIF and KFM is. Ignore the eith, make sure what you have matches, and run it.
