Keystone State

Welcome to Keystone State v2. This map was designed as a one-player SAM. It features a few new
Goods and Industries. Following testing by ace player railage, a few corrections were made to my
original map – thus the version 2. You can build tunnels, but keep them short. They are very expensive.

Spreading your track across the map will make play easier and you will avoid spaghetti track. I hope
that you enjoy Keystone State.

Using steam version, I can’t get Dakota Territory and Keystone State to load, I’ve copied the zip contents into the UserMaps folder, I’ve deleted all previous saved games

You might need to have only one or the other in the UserMaps folder. Maps that have a lot of introduced content, like different trains and structures, generally don’t like to co-exist with other maps doing the same.

You can create plenty of new maps just using the stock model libraries and the game is happy to load them all because they are just that, stock. But multiple introduced content in UserMaps is a well known legacy problem with SMR.

I use the GOG release of the game and just placed the two maps you noted in your post into my UserMaps, and my version crashes too. They show up when selecting a map to play, but attempting a game with either will cause the game to crash.

Even the original version of the game (which I have) will still crash. Like I said, it’s a known thing about SMR.

So, the golden rule is generally just one map loaded in the UserMaps folder, at a time.

With the saved games, you do not need to delete them, ever. They are not scanned at any time. They will only fail to load if the map used for the game, when it was played, is not present in UserMaps as the engine will want to load the relative models registered inside the saved game.

I’m actually in the middle of engineering version 2 of my saved game editor and it might even be worth peeling off a ‘Send To’ app that can show details of a saved game, like what map was used. In fact I think I’ll do that later today.

Sorry you are having trouble bm. These maps are SAM (Stand Alone Map). I have about 15 different maps in my documents/My Games folder. Each stands on it’s own. I just name whichever I want to use to Sid Meier’s Railroads!. When I am done with it I rename it Sid Meier’s Railroads!_map name. Next time I want to use it I just rename it back to Sid Meier’s Railroads! I access different maps all the time looking for content. You definitely do not want anything but the map you are playing in the usermaps folder and remove any files from the Custom Assets folder as well. Best wishes, Slider
