Maryland Final SAM

Post by Jancsika » Sun Apr 12, 2009 2:37 am

MARYLAND Part 1.
NEW FILES NEW FILES
The ZIP files have to be unzipped into the UserMaps Folder.
It is a typical SAM (Stand Alone Map)
The map size is 15 X 15.
The FPK files are from Rodea's West Sumatera map. If you have not played that map, you will find this a completely new design. Originally this was a CIC type design and I have converted it to SAM.
Rodea created new industries, trains, traincars. There are new Ports, Offshore oil rigs, Corn fields, Cotton fields, Apple orchards (was Rambutan), Peach orchards, Bank and a lot more.
It is a very challenging scenario. You have to fulfill some difficult production quotas.
There are three different Eras with different goals. You will have to watch the track layout and probably relay them at least twice.

Please Note that the new map files are available at http://eric.bkbobby.com/forum/viewtopic ... 2054#p2054

I am having problems with the upload file size limit. Will have to resize my files to be able to upload here.

Nice job but it seems you have included lots of files doubled up in the FPK's. I see the maps scenario files were in the FPK's and the dock FPK doubled up as well as a folder and a PAK0.fpk and a lot of un-used files included as well.
I could not get it to run at first so I went in and checked the scenario_user_maryland.xml and changed
<szSubtitle>Custom/User Created</szSubtitle> just to say <szSubtitle>Maryland</szSubtitle> and i ran ok so far.
Also noticed some of the mines graphics float in mid air and 1 crabery high and dry on land with a monster hill surrounding it.

Just download ZIP #1 it has the Maryland folder and also a new Maryland_Industries FPK. You have to replace both. The rest should work.

There you go! :D Maryland ran perfectly for me till the end, not a single crash. Toward the finish I had 44 trains running simultaneously, even my Core-i7 got a bit sluggish.

The tracklayout .. um, spaghetti

The tracklayout .. um, spaghetti
Spagetti it is!
What I normally do at an Era change is: Stop the action, delete the tracks that not needed, delete trains that not needed, rearrange the switching tracks at the station, it takes about an hour, but it makes smoother play.
That is also the reason that I don't like to have large Net Worth goals in my scenarios. It takes the pressure off to have too many trains.

Still running great. I was reading through the Scenario file and noticed that it calls for Fuel Oil from two cities, but they don't appear on the Victory checklist.

I am also going to change the 400 coins to 750, but I will set that requirement to ANY BANK.

Port Crab was falling behind on coin transport. I set up a bank at Cambridge and at double speed it still took 12 game years to pull all the accumulated coins out.

Dunno if thats a change you want to make, but I have about 30 trains dedicated to moving coins out of the ports by the end of the Scenario.

Thanks Again!

Thanks for the warning!
It was a strange error. Actually there were two and they canceled each other out. Notepad++ never caught it.

As for the coins. I don't think that it makes any difference where you haul it from. I hardly ever used Port Crab.

I found a three corrections in the Scenario file.

For Warrenton to Williamsburg you have TAG_NAME_FRONT_WILLIAMSBURG

For Fredrick to Port Maryland you have
TG_NAME_PORT_MARYLAND

For Tappahannock to Luisa you have TAG_NAME_LOUISA

Still haven't figured what is wrong with the Fuel Oil, YET.

Edit: Attached is an edited version of the Scenario File. The above errors are corrected and I have the Fuel Oil issue fixed.

It also includes the changes I made to the Scenario, like 1,000 Coins to any Bank. (I'm lazy, didn't want to change them back.)

Have to look at it again, all the icons for what cities have (Passengers, Cattle, etc. were missing from the update.)

Re-Edit: Here it is, my file wasn't wrong, the supporting files were messed up, had to reinstall Maryland.

As Snoopy always said; Don't type, copy and paste.
Thanks for pointing them out.

Without a doubt, this map is the best yet.
I'm absolutely addicted to it.
Thanks to you and Rodea for a great piece of work.
