Re: The Island Of Sodor Map
As it was noted this story is based on Thomas; “The Little Engine That Could”. Thomas is a little engine that could pull heavy loads up steep slopes, that his big brothers could not. Chug-chug up the mountains to the top of the steep slopes.
The terrain is such that you could easily recreate the bumpy up and down ways of this little engine.
I have played it a couple times and it is a lot of fun.
The goals of the scenario is difficult, but can be done.
I hope you all will have a lots of fun with this.
Weather it is CIC or not, it is a great map, and Rodea needs to be congratulated.

Re: The Island Of Sodor Map
Say I downloaded your winter map in a clean RailRoads game folder and ran that installer, then I ran the installer for this map. They both run okay, but my maps only have the games default train engines. I see no SW 1500, Dash 9s or any of those new engines.
What maps and or files of yours are needed for these. Right now I only have those two maps in your RailRoads folder. So this map needs more than just that winter map to get those train models as the winter map also only has default train engines as well.
I may have missed some instructions somewhere. This is why I make all my maps self-contained now. Each map has everything and not dependant on any others to run.
I like the animated animals, they seem to run okay in this game, too bad they are decorations...they will disappear after a game save and return, they still look cool for the start of the game though. Oh...I was testing your map in TrainTable mode, use all trains. I saw only default engines both maps.

Re: The Island Of Sodor Map
Okay...
The engines are in-game if you play the Scenaro, but not in-game if a player wants to play the game in TrainTable mode.
Here is why I use a Global RRT_Trains.xml and TrainCars in my map files. Many people like to play the game in TrainTable mode, so you will have to start testing your maps in that mode as well. I wounder what would have happened if I only got default train cars while playing the map. It would have crashed I guess as your new cars will not load if a player plays the map in TrainTable mode.
So anything new you add to the game must have a global listing if you want the thing to run fully in the game in all play modes.
... Also when flipping back and forth between the two maps, the game will crash. If both maps use the same files to run, that should not happen. So something is off in the game when these maps are running. I did not test the save-game function as yet on each map.
So now you know one of the reasons why I add all those global files to my mods.
I like the extended passenger and mail cars...and how about that Air Suspension System you have worked out
It is a beautiful map, and well done on the models.

Re: The Island Of Sodor Map
There must be something missing from your installation. The engines are in-game if you play the Scenaro, but not in-game if a player wants to play the game in TrainTable mode.
I have just looked and the engines are in in the TrainTable mode.
One thing I have to agree. It would have been better if the map does not have to rely on an other map.

Eventually, I will probably make a SAM version.
Jancsika

PS. I was using the original upload!!
Re: The Island Of Sodor Map
No. You don't understand. Start any of those two maps, using the TrainTable mode on the Difficulty drop down list before you enter the game maps. Also click on the Use All Trains link before you enter the maps. Test both for this function. Try and see if those new engines are in the game in TrainTable mode.Jancsika wrote:There must be something missing from your installation. The engines are in-game if you play the Scenaro, but not in-game if a player wants to play the game in TrainTable mode.

That's when the SAM map makes sense.

then come back here and tell me what just happened to you. Even in a sam version, with the files built this way, you will always get the same outcome.
TrainTable mode, bypasses the scenario xml list, so that RRT_Trains_The_Island_Of_Sodor.xml will not be loaded...so no new train engines. Then go back and set the game for one of the Difficulty settings where you use the scenario lists by using the other money settings...then the engines pop-in the game, where in train table mode they are gone.
Like I said, that is why I use those global files for my new trains and train cars, otherwise in train table mode, they are not loaded. Think it out, or better yet give it a try yourself. I have no missing files for these maps.
Also in the screenshot I was trying to show that the passenger cars have no wheel sets assigned for them...hence my joke about the air ride suspension system.

Oh...Rodea. Do you know what type program Launguage the Saved Game files are written in? It would be great to be able to read those saved files the game makes as the game gets saved. It may clue-in on why all Decorations never get saved along with the rest of the game. Not to mention what a great trouble shooter it would be.
Re: The Island Of Sodor Map
Really enjoy this map and the Quad City Lake In Winter Map.
I do get a few CTD and traced it down to the SMR EXE not exiting the memory. Use ctl alt delete and all works great.

Re: The Island Of Sodor Map
Mine will just crash and close out. The game never hangs with a black screen...it just drops to the desktop.
I think the game may be getting confused. As if you play the maps one way you get list A, if you play the game anouther way you get list B.
The global files put a stop to that. Allowing both types of game play, thus a happy game running in either train table or rober baron or whatever.
Believe me, I learned this the hard way with F/G & M/S.

Re: The Island Of Sodor Map
I started a new folder for the map, then installed both maps. Updated the TunnelnBridgeXML and did some tweaking to the trains XML to get all trains sooner, added a few engines from the constructions section, BB_MR_2035_GP38_2, GP72, GP73. And it works great. Have to make sure that the Railroads.exe is not already running in my Windows Task Manager, or it will CTD.
Notice how much money.

But why would anybody want to use that feature?
You have to look at it this way.
Your way of bulding a map is very useful if and when you have a lot of original content.
That's the way you know it's best.
As for myself, I am putting together maps from bits and pieces (Building Blocks?) and it is much easier for me to get into other maps and pick an item that I want to use.

Re: The Island Of Sodor Map
Well it has nothing to do with any of that Jancsika. When I first bought the game before I started to mod it I played it Only in TrainTable mode. I know several players that play the maps in TrainTable mode with Use All Trains clicked.
It is in the Difficulty drop down list, just like playing the game in Investor or Rober Baron. Maps should play in all Difficulty levels.
It is up to you guys I was only pointing it out. I am sure someday someone will post a trouble saying they played the map and didn't see any new trains. The map is prone to crashing out if someone plays it in train table mode though.
I was only trying to help.

Re: The Island Of Sodor Map
so i downloaded the IOS map, and it loads on the menu but then as the level loads the game crashes. do i need the other map Quad City Lake In Winter?????? if so where can i find it?????
Re: The Island Of Sodor Map
Rodea's Sodor Island is delightful both for the rich choice of Thomas Tank engines, and its high strategy and replay value due to the clever production chains. Initially, it may take you all three eras to complete the map at investor level. But as you gain a deeper understanding of the production possibilities, early Robber Baron success is quite possible.
This great map is now (Sept. 22) available in one simple download from our maps database, with all known crashes fixed (no AI players allowed, though). Since I played the new version through a few times for testing purposes, here are some tips for completing Sodor Island at Robber Baron level.
Initially, develop 4 towns close together, including the starting location, by running one passenger-mail train to and fro. Given the low revenues for Robber Baron, it takes quite a while for some money to build up - don't upgrade the terminals, develop some food and medicine income with the free "Haybails" and nitrates instead.
As soon as Rodea workers appear in the towns, start developing more food, textiles, steel, whatever is available near the four initial towns, to make money. Take special care to crank up your cookies production early, it tends to be the most troublesome production chain. The coal deliveries to Tidmouth also need to start as soon as possible, so grow the village to allow early placement of a steelworks.
Tunnels are impossibly expensive, bridges (except brick) are costly but necessary to traverse from one side of the island to the other, which needs to happen in the first era. Once the first era is done, keep all other delivery objectives in sync so that they complete more or less at the same time, to achieve an early Robber Baron success!
