Greetings - New user & SMR owner!

Post by MarkShot » Wed Apr 23, 2008 12:01 am

Greetings,

I just wanted to say hello.

I recently purchased SMR.

I've been playing 1830, RTD, and RT3. Although I think 1830 is the best game for business and that RTD is still probably the best rail game, I thought I would give SMR a go given the reduced price.

Glad to see that there is a pretty sizeable community.

Are a lot of folks still playing SMR?

Is there replay value in SMR against the AI or are people only playing MP?

Thanks.

There seem to be a number of downloads, but not as many participating in the talk.

In the 2nd question I'm guessing that you're talking about playing a map gain, but with AIs. Each AI has different atributes. One may be good at building, but can't handle money, or may be bad at operating his trains, but good at taking goods before you can get to them. Unless the map maker specifies them, they are random for each play.

The other good variable is the Difficulty level. You may have done fine with $500,000 and 5 shares of stock (Investor) 8) , but can you do as good with $300,000 and only 3 shares of stock(Mogul) ?

And Welcome to the forum! :D
I'm correct 97% of the time..... who cares about the other 4%....

I am still playing RTD trying to master Tycoon level.

I always get battered pretty bad by rate wars. I like the AIs in RTD (even if they don't really run trains). I found the AIs in PopTop's RT3 to kind of weak.

I had play Capitalism II for a while, but found this dissappointing. The AIs were not too hard to beat once you crossed a critical threshold.

I've been browsing the forums and the Wiki. Lots of good information there.

Thanks for the welcome!

Download and check out some of the custom maps. You can either use one to make your own map, or go into the Wiki and learn how to make a map from the real world of your own. We're always looking for new map makers (druelllll.......)

Replay value????

Cant really say, as there are quite a few download maps that are rather tough. Amerigonia, and the Trancontinental, for example. Come to think of it, I'm STILL not done with Transcontinental, finally got to the end of the second era where I had to grow a city to a metropolis. Finally had to go back to an earlier save and pump goods in like mad even earlier than I was doing.

but I've yet to play a map again once I've finished all the single player objectives; then again, I havnt' played them all yet either! Never played multiplayer at all.
