Problem loading Sid Meier's Railroads

Post by karel3 » Tue Nov 07, 2006 10:42 pm

I bought the program several days ago and I can not get it to load.

I get the following message when I try to load the program:

Windows XP Setup
Please go to Control Panel to install and configure system components.

I have gone ot the Control Panal and looked at the the Device Manager but could not find anything to change. TO be honest I'm at a loss at what I need to do.
Anyone have any ideas at what I need to change or get??

The following is my computer info:
Motherboard: ASUS A7N8X-X
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2.15 Gh,
Memory: 512 MB
Graphics card: Radeon 9200 w/128MB memory
Audio: built in to motherboard
OS: Windows XP SP2
DirectX: 9c

I presume I am short on memory and plan on going to 1GB.
Do I need to up grade my graphics card??

Any help will be appreciated.

That is an odd message. 512 should be enough to run the game though...

Try to load it in Windows safe mode. It worked for me. Be sure that your graphic driver is up to date.
Good luck.

Try using the DirectX Diagnostic Tool to diagnose your gaming components, and see what the report says or advises. To do this, click the Start button, select Run..., type dxdiag then click the OK button. The tests should start as soon as it loads.

Also, it wouldn't hurt to make sure that you have the latest drivers for your graphics card and sound. I would visit the ASUS website and lookup your motherboard in the support section for sound drivers.

One other thing that I would try is using the Windows Update and download all High Priority Updates along with any Hardware updates. You may have to run this process several times if you haven't done this for a while as some of the bigger updates (such as Service Packs) will only install on their own.
