Ports in the cities?
Ports in the cities?
Has anybody come up yet with a port in the city, that will stay put?
If you place a port in a city with <bIsCoastal>1</bIsCoastal> in the XML it will always either jump on the land or places the city houses in the water.
I know I can place it as a separate item but that will require an other trainstop, and that's what I want to aviod.

That is exactly the trouble. The port will move around and will place itself anywhere within the city limits and will end up on the dry land, while the city houses are in the water.
The ports are nothing more than a modified fishery.
What I asked if there is a possibility to have a port that does not move around but stay put!?

PS I have seen the port that you put in Maryland. I tried that too.

As I said before this game full Customize and you can make everything what you want, just depends on your ability to manage its, I will try it, then we will see what i can do for it.....Jancsika wrote:If you want to place a port in a city, so you can't make <bIsCoastal>1</bIsCoastal> and should be <bIsCoastal>0</bIsCoastal> and <bInCity>1</bInCity>

Re: Ports in the cities?
The problem is not so much that the Port is jumping around. With careful planning and placing that can be minimised. As I said before this game full Customize and you can make everything what you want, just depends on your ability to manage its, I will try it, then we will see what i can do for it.....
They also crash the game (I am talking about Port placed in the City!). They are fine, one even can run tracks and build Stations, but when you click on them, the game crashes.
That happens with both Snoopys and Rodeas ports.
I am just wondering if the green circle has something to do with it?
Does anybody have any ideas?

Re: Ports in the cities?
The problem is not with the port but with having different mods in the map and there compatibility with other mods. I had the same problem with the port on a map i'm making now and I went through the map and disabled 1 mod at a time until it stopped crashing. Used a different one and it never happened again.Jancsika wrote:The problem is not so much that the Port is jumping around. The problem lies with mod incompatibilities.
So do what I did and see what happens.

Re: Ports in the cities?
Thanks Bobby.
I started to do it but in reverse order. Started with the bare minimum, Mail, grain, beer, brewery and the Port.
I immediately run into a problem.
In order not to CTD I had to add Passengers in the RRT_Goods.XML.
We had this type of a problem with the Side to Side, but there either Mail or Passengers (just one of them) did the trick. Here I had to have both.
The reason I am starting from the bottom up, because there seems to be a problem with the DSC Goods line, but was becoming too complicated to pinpoint it by the way of elimination.
Here is the setup that I am using.
I will post more if and when I find something.

Re: Ports in the cities?
Well in the map I am making it has passengers and mail but I found using the Sheep Farm was the cause of my problem with the port I am using so I swapped sheep out for cotton instead. That seems to have solved my problem.Jancsika wrote:Thanks Bobby.

Re: Ports in the cities?
What I found so frustrating that there appears to be a combination of factors causing the problem and when I crash, just the removal of the offending item does not help. It will still crash after everything was removed.
I have to go back to the last backup, and start fresh.
( I do backup at every step ) I think it was the combination of the Hotel and some of the DSC containers that did it.
After I stabilized the port, the Hotel caused some crash, so I am using the Casino for Hotel. That seems to be OK.
What a mess, took me 3 days.

Re: Ports in the cities?
Hrrm. I wonder if this is what caused Colonia to crash? I think I had both and I kept getting crashes... in the end that was why I worked up Wolf 359, which was Colonia with standard goods.vzbob wrote: Well in the map I am making it has passengers and mail but I found using the Sheep Farm was the cause of my problem with the port I am using so I swapped sheep out for cotton instead. Re: Ports in the cities?
The only practical way to design custom maps, to go very slowly, item by item, testig and always have a backup. The backup is important, because as I already indicated, just removing the offending item will not always help. Sometimes some residual effect will stay and it will crash, no matter what.Hrrm. Re: Ports in the cities?
Excellent advice, Jancsika. That is exactly how I produced my maps:
- make a backup
- add one or two modifications
- test thoroughly
- repeat
