San Martino BETA

Post by Star Ranger4 » Fri Oct 26, 2007 5:34 am

You know, one of these days I am going to have to pick up a game and not get involved in the .mods community... But apparently today is not that day.

If you happen to had read the "Steaming along" thread in the mods talk, you'd know I've been tinkering with my own custom scenario.

Well, its just about ready for prime time. Of course, having the rest of you take a look at it and give me some feedback on it would be greatly appreciated!

So, I present to you my first attempt at a user created Scenario:

San Martino
Based off the Mesa Madness map, the "Planet" of San Martino is one of the most challenging planets yet colonized by man, because of its unique atmosphere. Humans can only live safely on the high mountaintops, while the resources they need to survive are generally only found down on the valley floors. Internal combustion engines tend to explode messily without warning, forcing the development of Fission powered Steam Engines, which can operate safely even along the valley floors. And just in time, as San Martino must prepare for a probable invasion from the expansionist Peoples Republic...

(If this sounds like something from a David Webber book... you'd be right!)

Requires SMRI or the 'Fixed' version of the Santa scenario

As this is presently beta, no installer, just the zip which I trust all of you understand how to install without an installer?

Its a real shame I'm one of the few regulars here who does not know how to use the zip'd maps. Guess I'll have to wait for the installer, sounds fun anyway.

Oh my man, out of all the maps you chose to mess with..... This map, even tho it is an original, has one MAJOR flaw, it seems to loose its' track! Did you have that problem when you were testing it on your system? The track seems to vanish for some odd reason.
go to this topic and read about it:

Nope. out of all the problems I have had with this one, vanishing track wasnt one of them.

I crash to the desktop when I try to run your map. Any idea what other maps are required? I've got most of the common ones, arizona, america, superbowl...

I'm running a core2duo @3.5GHz with 2Gb so I don't think my computer is the problem.

At 70mb I think SMRI is not just a map but something more crucial for the game?

I'm visiting this forum for quite a while now, even more frequent the past few days
and I had honestly never heard of SMRI.
*sigh*

Yeah as the PR person for SMRI its likely my fault you have not heard of it. Basically SMRI is a set of maps, not just any maps though but the maps that make up a full get of XMLs. Prior to SMRI you would need to install about 14 different maps to get a full set.

Looking at the content I'm starting to realize just that.
That's pretty dayumn brilliant....
All necessary components in one go.

Don't blaim yourself too much. I figured this might have been discussed
quite extensively here on the forum.
The problem is that once that phase has passed, it's quite hard for newcomers
or people who don't visit too often to catch up on important stuff like this.

I'm very glad I found it.
And now I will be gone for a few days. Playing it. :P

Apologies for hijacking your topic Star Ranger.
I look forward to playing your scenario, but it's gotta wait just a little bit.

DOH! Yeah, that or the Santa map from here, since I have a reference to the 484 a1 from that scenario...

Editing the top post to reflect that!
