I thought as much as that is why I have held back on another gig of ram and a pc upgrade just for SMR
Its the large maps with lots of scenarios and having to lay a lot of track that does it. Our great map builders have gone past the game designed zone sort of red lining the family car or slapping a turbo on as its going to break which it does.
I have changed a lot of the maps scenarios and lowered goods down to smaller level like 200 goods down to 50 or removed some options etc and this makes the game more playable in the 45% stage as you just don't have to much going on.

I built a 361 unit size (19x19) Southeast US map...has almost everything in the book on it.
Plays great for me... blips out every now and then...then I just go back like a fool...
It's huge. I rebuilt the Styx map and remolded many sections of it...it too is stuffed...blips out every now and then...guess it needed a break.
I have a 400-unit size (20x20) map of Florida...so far so good.
I will tell you what helps... karsten's tunnel and bridge mod helps the game lay track better. Much better as a matter of fact. “I’ve added his bridge and tunnel scripts to many of my maps already.â€

And could you give instructions as to where to put them ? Remember your talking to a clown that drinks alot.

Inside AZCanyonV2... the Bridges.xml file. Many maps will come with those areas set as default on their maps...like this...

Getting a bit off subject here, and I think we need to look into a Wiki section on Mods.
Anyway, to make it simple and universal, put the file in the ZIP in /CustomAssets/XML. In any map you wish to use it in, open the RRT_Scenario XML and replace the Bridge line with this:
<BridgeXMLFile>RRT_Bridges_ALL.xml</BridgeXMLFile>
That will give you the effect you're looking for.

Well, it's a RRT_Bridges with the prices changed and he was looking for a way to put them in any map, so I used the second thing that came to my mind. The first was RRT_Bridges_That_You_Can_Use_For_Any_Map.xml. That was a bit to long. The name insn't really important as long as the same name in used in any map he wants the higher priced Bridges in. Also, we're talking Slappy here, didn't want to make it to hard.....

I was really interested just so there would be instructions for anyone who wanted to use it. The cost of the bridges wasnt the factor but I was interested because he said it made the game run smoother. I cant imagine that the price was what was making that happen. I think some of the maps DO run smoother than others. It has to be some setting in the code somewhere. I suppose eventually I will absorb enough to check it out. Asking for these instructions is my way of learning a little at a time. Clowns are very slow you know.

Recent tests with the game playing Train Table mode. Seems that when maps get three quarters full (lots of track) and more than twenty trains running is when the trouble starts.
On one CTD I checked the system status monitor just as the crash was happening the cpu spiked to 100% (3gig dual core)
, and I noticed that the game had been using twice the amount of the swap file space on the hard drive than windows uses...this dropped down to normal levels after the game closed out.
So I have been logging everything and have sent all to 2K tech support over the last few days and have been given a case number and signed up at their site. They said I should have more than enough system to run the large maps no problem. So I just sent off all my DirectX system info as they requested and we'll see what happens

I had that problem on Train Table, too. I have a 2.8gig computer on XP with a 512mb agp Radeon x1300 series. I upgraded to the 7.3 driver a while back. Then I did Train Table again and built quite a bit of track, got lots of trains on it, and did not have any CTDs for all the hours I played. I think the game is finally stablizing, and I can play more comfortably.

Good 'Ole Virtual Memory...what will Bill think of next. Those Mac commercials are getting better these days...
The problem may be that each 7900 card has 256mb of ram each. Seeing as the game only uses one card during game play...I may need a bigger graphics card with more ram. So I broke the news to the wife that my birthday is around the corner and I need an Nvidia 8800 card.
I'm already enslaved for life so may as well go for it I always say...
