I don't have a C: drive on my computer so I cannot install the required software to generate a digital elevation data map. I was wondering if someone could make one for southern africa. I have attached a pic from google maps of the desired area for this map. I would like it to be 901x901 pixels.
Thanks in advance!

Here you GO!
I've made this with microdem SRTM-30 Data
and converted to Geotiff (tif) data type,
i hope you can work with this, the data is detailed so the real map is in a zip file...
I added also a screenshot from gloabl mapper, where you can already see some cities pointed out,
this will givze you already a good idea where the cities are situated and wich part of the map is of your intrest....

ps: I don't see either a problem of your hardrive
ps2: The ocean is in blue, that's a good thing,
what you should do is this:
- change the contrast till the coastline has the minimum value for land instead of sealevel,
- color the ocean in a color beneath sea level...
- i forgot right now the sealevel gray-value, but you could find that in the wiki or a post about that... have a look overthere!!!

Here i looked it up
It appears that sea level ends at R:48,G:48,B:48 and land begins at R:49,G:49,B:49.
have a look overhere for more information:

if you need still some help, let me knoww,
and if i've got the time (when i'm not spending it on mine scenrio)
Use also maybe more contrast if you want higher height-diffezrence, and in terrain editor smooth the mountains if they look like pikes... !!!
still have a look at other posts, there's already alot of info to be found (that's better then that i'm repeating everything overhere)

Yea I have two hard drives actually. The problem is that the software does not allow you to change what drive letter you are installing to. It defaults directly to C: and is an auto installer with no option change the default install location.Warll wrote:Even if your drive is not called C: you will still have one. Just maybe under another name.
I tried using the MicroDEM program.
@gforce Thanks a lot, that is what I was looking for
