Negative Cash

Post by circus_freak » Sat Feb 17, 2007 2:32 am

Gentlemen,
Is there a legitimate reason why a player's cash would be negative on the competition report, yet that player was still able to buy an opponent's stocks? Recently saw this in a game and it was also viewed by another player who called him on it.
Thanks for any info concerning this.

Is this a cheat code or something.....??

I think this was the game I was in (Boner). He was 2million neg balance yet was buying my stock. When I questioned it he quit the game very quickly!!!

The person in the game I am reffering to blamed it on the game being out of sync. I don't quite understand the out of sync concept.

I think this has been discussed before and if I remember correctly it appears that the game might continue locally if it cannot get an update from the other players but unless there is a bug in the game I would find it hard to believe that the game would continue locally long enough for someone to make enough money to buy out another player. Especially since you saw the buy out then that would assume that communications were happening and you should get accurate information about each other.

My brother and I played it once over my local net and it worked fine. I also played it with 2 computers in the same room, no problem. when I did it the 3rd time, I got the out of sync on both, but it appeared that it had healed itself until I ran a track to a town on 1 player, but it appeared to run elsewhere on the other. I believe what happenes in an out-of-sync is that the computer takes over and plays for the missing systems.

After 4 trys, I gave up as all it wanted to do was out-of-sync. It also may have been because I had changed port switches to one with a firewall.
I'm correct 97% of the time..... who cares about the other 4%....

No, I have a in-home local network, 5 computers and a server all thru a port switch to a cable modem and out into the internet. He was on my computer and I was on my wifes. I later brought my wifes upstairs into the computer room and hooked into the in-house and played both computers.

I think he was asking your opinion about his game. IMO there was something fishy going on since the person bailed when questioned and you were aware of the buy out which means there was not a total out of sync situation. But of course I was not there so I cannot be sure.

Sorry bout dat. If the game went out-of-sync, you would see it on your screen and the AI would have taken over his place on your game and your place in his game.

I think the AIs are the reason for all out-of-syncs cause you don't let them play

Hey Circus,

I'm pretty sure that was me in that game with you who called the guy on it.

I've seen it a few times and used to think it was a cheat .... however, a couple weeks ago a guy said it to me. He said "hey bob, how come it says you have negative 1.5 million" and my screen said 500k positive. So I do think it may actually be some sort of lag/sync issue now. I still don't think there are any real cheats in the game other than the early station plant....which is so obvious that it's pretty unusable.

That's my take, good ol circus lol.

Also,

I've listed the cheats I believe exist (subjectively or otherwise). I'm to a point in my game now that it's been forever since I thought someone was cheating. There is a pretty nasty trick I didn't know for a long time that explains whats going on when you might have thought it was cheating.

This track is actually used by LOTS of players now Circus, it Does NOT explain the negative cash flow...but it does explain an early lead of say 1.5 million or so. I haven't seen you on in a long time, so if you come back and wonder how come 10 new guys are beating you, just ask me to show you what's goin on and I'll oblige. I haven't seen anything I couldn't explain in a long time. And one more piece of evidence to me that the negative cash flow is NOT cheating: I beat a guy real bad the other day and at one point checked his financials, he had a negative.....so it ain't cheating, it's yet another glitch :)

But ultimately any time I get beat, I can explain why, I can examine trains and tracks and see what they did....and frankly these days I don't have to, if I got beat, I know how it happened...usually they out-played me, nothing fancier. The online game is actually much nastier now than it used to be.....no place for greenhorns lol, and I thought it was bad when I started a year ago, I had no idea how nasty it COULD get!

We miss you circus freak, you were OUR circus freak lol.
Personally, I've come to terms with myself as a dirty, drunken, crazy hobo.
