Modding Guide?
Is there like a general guide to modding maps?
Also, do you have the ability to turn off bridges and/or tunnels?
If you can, I think a cool map will be a maze that you cant build bridges over water, or tunnels through mountains.

Good thought.....I checked it out and you can, but then again, you can't. You'd have to remove the Bridge and Tunnel files from the SMR main XML, actually move them outside of the game, no delete them. The maps will still run, but as you can see, you can tunnel and bridge, it just don't look right

I'm correct 97% of the time..... who cares about the other 4%....
As to a general guide to Modding maps, I did a framework for publishing them that can be found in the Railroads Wiki and some master files for use in Modding, but the rest of it is scattered thruout the Forum. Maybe you could learn and help others by going thru the Forum, copying info to a wordpad and rewriting it into a Wiki that would help anyone else wanting to learn.

Tutorials for 'Railroads!' Terrain Editor
Hi,
I'm new to this forum, but I've been working on producing some introductory tutorials for editing Railroads maps.
Initially I've focussed on how the Terrain Editor works, but I hope to add some material on editing the XML files etc.
If you want to check out what I've done so far, its at...

Keep up the good work on this tut.. we can all use it to refer others to and to clear up a few missing peaces that I sometimes scratch my head over.

You can, but it requires you to bring the level of the whole map down to just above water level. Then you build up where you want higher ground.karsten wrote:Very useful research. Wish I could produce some rivers without digging deep fjords in Middle England, though...

Snoopy, I agree, that is what I did with Scrooge, and I think it works well.snoopy55 wrote:You can, but it requires you to bring the level of the whole map down to just above water level. My forthcoming Liverpool and Manchester map is more realistic, based on a DEM of the area, however, and in that sort of terrain I find it difficult to achieve a good look (screenshot), because the land and the rivers slope up from the sea into the mountains.

Here is an outline of Wisconsin with the towns I want at about their elevation along with two reference maps for you to work from, unless you have access to better ones. If you want to start from a blank, I have a list of the town placements. I do believe I did this at size 12 x 12.
Let me know what you think and thanks.
