New to Mods

Post by thesaguy » Mon Jun 15, 2009 4:49 am

Hi,

So I’m new at map building and have a couple questions.

I can’t seem to find a post that explains how to work with “FPK” files.
I’ve never used them…

How do I change the name of a goods?
I want the change nitrates to fertilizer. I did it in the “RRT_Industries” & “RRT_Goods”
But the map crashes if I make these changes.

Thanks.

First check the Wiki pages (Link on the top of the page, you have to be a registered member).
FPK files are a collection of different graphic components. If you want to look into them you have to have the "Pacbuild" program from http://www.civfanatics.com/. It is free.

You also have to change the "TrainCars" to haul fertilizer.

Here are two fertilizer files.

Okay,

So the Wiki was really helpful and I'm having a lot of fun changing maps.

I'm currently having a probelm though, I'm trying to add Oil to my map, but the fields are not showing up.

Could someone please look at my attached files and tell me what I'm doing wrong.

I've edited the "BC_Gold" map, since it's such a nice/difficult terain.

THANKS!!

You have all the parts you need except one, the Oil wells themselves in RRT_Industries_BC_Gold.xml.

And any out of city industries you want to show up must have a location given to them. In city industries do not because you can purchase and place them.

The rule of adding a good to the your map.

1.Add the good to RRT_Goods_Mapname.XML (If it is a SAM map the filename is: RRT_Goods.XML)
2.Add the traincar to haul the good to RRT_Traincar_Mapname.XML
3.Add an industry to produce the good to RRT_Industries_Mapname.XML
4.Add an industry to receive the good to RRT_Industries_Mapname.XML, or modify the cities in RRT_Cities_Mapname.XML
5.If there are only stock (Firaxis) industries you don't have to worry about the Annexes for the field (Oil, Grain) industries. But if it has custom industries, you will need an RRT_Depots_Mapname_XML , with ALL THE USED stock depots, includind mail and passengers.

To quote a well known member:

"If you have not read it yet, you might want to read 'Map Making 101' here: http://eric.bkbobby.com/media/index.php ... Making_101 There are four sections on that. It was originally written for standard map making, but the only real difference between the two is the RRT_Goods.xml file over the map named one."
