here is the result of my test. if i place the fpk in customassets and the other folder in usermaps, i cant run the map. i have to put both in the customassets folder.
i am including a copy of my dxdiag file so you will see that my computer is not too shabby.
i have 42 sam maps. only five (5) will run.
these are: orient express, mill valley, maritime canada, mexico, multiplayer nw

the following crash to desktop: africa challenge, africa diamonds, central andes, dog world, hill valley mess, italia, scroogeholiday, war zone, wyoming valley

the following freeze while loading and i have to shut my computer down with the power switch in order to reboot: alska early, america 2, america so2, austraila 2, chicago to the rockies, europe, liverpool & manchester, ne uk hard, north east uk, rusia, southern ontario, spain, styx, sudamerica, uk2, utah, valencia

the following wont load but i can press ctl-alt-del and get back to desktop: amerigonia, australia, bc gold, texarkana, uk large, uk pennines, wisconsin

the following load but there is no land just water under everything: new england, africa challenge, mysterious island

the following has no fpk file: sid's place

i hope this helps. i am totally frustrated because i like this game so much. i just wish it would run. thanks for your help

What is your computer specification?
Do you have a fairly decent graphic card?
In the graphic setup, set your "Shader"to medium.(Water everywhere)
Try to lower your graphic settings.

Try to remove the game completely (all directories and folders!) and reinstall it.
Keep your fingers crossed.

I used to have an older computer before this one and I did a complete cleanup at least once a month.

This game is very graphic intensive.

Jancsika - his specs are in his DxDiag that he posted. He looks OK

Are you loading one map at a time, or are they all in at the same time? Do you have the update loaded?
I'm correct 97% of the time..... who cares about the other 4%....

Vincep. i have had similiar problems to you with maps. Could you do the following for me to see what happens.
Into a clean install of SMR load Chic to the Rockies SAM. Place the folder into UserMaps and try to play.
By clean install I mean:

In my games rename your present SMR folder to SMR original. Get out of My Games and restart SMR. {assume your's is SMR plus the patch only}
At main menu go into options and configure as you want then exit to desktop. Do not copy settings file from old SMR original.
Copy c to r from wherever you have it stored to usermaps and restart the game. C to R should appear in your map options for you to play. Good luck
