My 1st map...Rebuild the towns.

Post by Geekyone » Sun Jun 03, 2007 4:02 am

1st Edit (Sunday June 3rd, fixed a graphics problem with the fishery, and added a couple industries to a couple towns)

If you CTD and know what I did wrong, let me know so I can fix it.

Thanks

Here is what I'm talking about. you can't put a terminal on it to load trains. Don't know if its to far out in the water? How do you fix that?

Geekyone and dwax - the fishery is a bit to far out in the lake. The X,Y settings in RRT_Industries for the two of them should be

X -46
Y 54

and

X -202
Y -5

Those will work.

The map looks neat except that some of the Goods have nowhere to go, like Wine. I'm working on my Mapping Lesson 101b right now which will show you a way to make sure that all the finished products you have are needed.
I'm correct 97% of the time..... who cares about the other 4%....

Yeah dwax, that is something I fixed and have already uploaded the new file to this site. I aslo added a couple industries to help some of the useless cities that were scattered around.

And added a little bit more paint around the lake and river so it wasn't so bland.

The one thing I still can't find is why I CTD when I buy, and try to add a Textile factory to a city...

Thanks Snoopy, I don't know how to make a town demand wine, I couldn't find that line of code in any of the xml files I have.

Would you happen to know what the line is off hand?

Geekyone - go into Talk and map making 101. Download the RealityStrippedMasters ZIP. in it you will find a text caled RealityMapRequirementsMaster. The ReadMe text will tell you how to pring it out. In the second section is a column called 'Products'. These items, in order to be used, unless you want to use them to create another product, must be put into RRT_Cities as needed by the City Types. Read map making 101b for an explaination of how to do it.

Also, you said you changed the upload you did. When doing so, please make note in the post as most people only re-download a map when a new version is uploaded.

I edited your map to remove the un-needed parts as far as the information on Goods, Industries, etc. In checking your Industries XML I found 21 industries being used. The part in the map where you select an industry to put into a city only allows 12.

In RRT_Cities you are wanting 5 items delivered to the Metropolis. You are producing 8. There are a couple of ways to work this out.

I'm curious where you got the XML files you used for this. The map Editor makes the files almost as I edited them.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Repaired the mistake.

I've downloaded a few other maps. (the superbowl one, the America Manifest Destiny one and Chicago to the Rockies one) opened their XML files and just make sure mine looked the same replacing only the names of my cities yada yada yada.

If there is another way to do this easier, please pass on the secret, but doing it this way wasn't so bad, but of course I'll look at the differeance between what you did and what I have saved and see where I made my errors.

Thanks.
