Here ya go, your area of interest (from your strange looking .tga file) is long but it needs to be square for the game so I grabbed a new DEM image and tried to get your area covered but with a square image and enough extra for the unusable border area.

BTW I followed my tutorial above for the grayscale with the Brt/Cnt of 20/-26.

Mexico is rather mountainous, let me know what you think of the area covered as well as the terrain.

Beautiful Dr.....another operation well done. Your name is on the credits.
BTW I followed my tutorial above for the grayscale with the Brt/Cnt of 20/-26.
What program did you use? I just now tried those numbers and it looks good.
The Mountains look good. I'll have to put in a few canyons and see if I can build a decent lake or two.

If there is anyone out there who wants to take a run at the terrain, please do so and post it.

While we're at it, I think we need a sticky for tools needed and where to aquire them for both Trains and Maps. I'm also wondering if we don't also need a sub-set for coding under Maps. There is alot of area spent on coding both there and Trains. Or a whole new section for Coding....

I use Paint Shop Pro, I made couple of scripts to convert from tiled .tga to layered .psp and back so it's easy to work with them.

OK, after many hours fighting this thing, I have a basic map to look at. It goes south as far as Guadalajara and as far east as Monterrey and north above Herosillo. It looks nice thanks to the Doc.

Now for some more research.

A copy of the map is attached. The SMR_Scenario is in the folder.

Note: This map can only be run in the Editer at this time. It only has 2 cities, both start points, and the game requires at least 4. Sorry bout that.

Nice map Snoopy it is very mountianous. Dr Frag I notice you prefer notepad++ I was wondering what the differences and advantages to using that are over xml notepad free from microsoft. I found the link for it on Mike Kennelly's page.

Just download Notepad++ and try it. Snoopy55 advised it, I tried it , and I love it. It's free, so you've got nothing to lose except a little bit of time.

And by the way, I'm completely computer illiterate, and I had no problems getting it to work or using it. I tried DEM a while back but couldn't figure out how to get it to work, so I was hesitant to try this, but believe me it's easy.

I have never used XML Notepad so I can't comment on it. I like Notepad++ so far and if you try it make sure to download and install the XML Tools plugin to get Pretty Print and Syntax checking.

Hey Snoopy55 / Map by Dr Frag

Big CTD on the start of this map - killed my graphics subsystem had to do a power off and back on.

Currently map has started at the first city. :D after fix below.

All I have done is correct this entry at this stage, fingers cross I can carry on. (posted in case someone gets a CTD)

RRT_Scenario_User_Central Mexico.xml needs a fix up

Code: Select all

I presume this is not a playable released map - just a one nameless city test map for you and Dr Frag??

OK, update..... Break out your cups, WE HAVE COFFEE!!!

Changed the grapes to coffee beans, the grapes in the big bins to coffee, gave the vineyard building a little brown colors and added the nitrates crane to load pallets of nice light brown bags of coffee on orangish flats. Those KFMs and NIFs need to be taught to behave :? I have to do the car icons and the coffee icon. I'm thinking about using one of the coffee bean bunches or a bag for the bean icon and a nitrates barrel made into a red coffee can for the finished product. Shipped in a box car.
