'behind'?
You mean beyond? Cuz I was wondering the same thing but I just haven't gotten around to testing it. Let's see . . . the next logical size would be 256 sq. units and that would equal a tile size of 961.

Here's a test file if you want since I'm at work and can't test it. For ease of testing go into Terrain Editor and make a new 225 sq. unit map and name it
256_Sq_Units. Quit Railroads! and extract the .tga file from this Zip and overwrite the one you just created in the Terrain Editor. Open the RRT_Scenario_User_256_Sq_Units.xml file and find the line <MapSize>15</MapSize> and change it to <MapSize>16</MapSize>. Launch Railroads and see what happens.

Don't know if this will work, but do check that
<MapSize>nn</MapSize>
parameter is correct in your RRT_Scenario_(mapname).xml - this usually varies from 10 to 15, but for a 961 pixel wide .tga, mapsize would need to be 16. I found out the hard way that if your scenario's mapsize doesn't agree with the size of the .tga, your PC will just lock up.

I can't make it work,
i also tried with changing mapsize to 16, but no

I've been testing already before and came up at best while loading in the map editor the follwing message:

Something like this:
You need a 400 sq units map
you can not load a map of 400 sq units... :P :(

stupid message but true...

i thought it had something to do with the wrong dds file but such a file can not been made without passing by the editor...

Thanx Mike, I was wondering if there was something like that in the XML files.

That's a freakin wierd error message.

Holy cow it worked.

I did make a mistake in the Scenario name though. It should be 256_Sq_Units and the Terrain Editor will add the 'map_' part.

And I also changed the XML to 16.

W00T! How far can we go???

Haha soon maps will have they're own system requirements! Wonder how much RAM I will need to get to run some of the maps we could be seeing in a few months.

Okay, here's a Zip with all three maps if you want to play with them. I included all files, just extract to your UserMaps folder.

Could you please upload the 400 Sq one to a post so I can link to it from the wiki. Wait never mind you know how to use a wiki. Don't forget to fill in your maps page with some map info and an SS. Also if you would like to post the other map sizes on the "Australia" page feel free.

Yes, great news there, i will try it out, but wouldn't be there any problems to run this map (on my system).
We could play on a world map, starting from each birthplace and take the train to visit other players...
i'm starting in brussels, belgium, i will lay down a track just till australia, the exact opposite side of the world 8)
it's summer overthere isn't it?
I will bring some goods, beer, chocolate and i will take some goods like kangeroos, koalas and a didgeredoo... :o

Be careful guys before you start working on a world map for ages and later be the onlyone that can play the map
I had in the beginning some crashes, problably because of the map size.
256 was ok, 400 crashed, 625 also,
after closing opera-browser, i was able to load them (even in the terrain editor)
I've got 768 Mb RAM, there will be a relation to the mapsize
ps: I didn't even lay a track or train...

but still: it is difficult not to try out some modding on that... 8)

Warll - I don't know, how well does Moose burn in a steam engine?

gforce - to bad on the ram. I bought 1Gb for my system and my brother also bought 1Gb. It wouldn't work in his, so I got it  I'm already thinking about an upgraded system, I just have to convince the wife that she'd be much better off with the one I have
