UK Harder Version

Post by mojos » Wed Feb 24, 2010 2:34 pm

This is based on the UK stock map but with a number of new cities added and some new and pretty challenging objectives. It can be beat, but it may take you a few tries!

This map uses all stock parts and should should run fine in a clean User Maps folder.

Some tips:
-Start with many trains on short routes to meet your first era mail and passenger objects;
-Get a head start on the Manchester to London run
-Jump on the goal of growing four villages into metropolises as soon as you can.

Have fun and please let me know what you think!

Nice map. Well thought out scenario. It took me about 5 tries to get over Era 1.
I am glad to see, that you realized that the scenario what makes a map exciting to play. It takes a lot of thought to make scenario well structured, attractive and fun to play. Most people who start with mapmaking get discouraged when they make their first map and try to throw in the kitchen sink, and then realize that it will not work. Firaxis made the map editing as an afterthought, it was not even included in the first release of the game. There are a lot of possibilities in the game and our experts have spent the last 3 years discovering and publishing it.
I can see that you have the ability to make great maps and I hope that you will stick with it.

Thanks Jancsika, that means a lot coming from you! I appreciate the encouragement. I am working up the nerve to make my own unique map (the terrain editing and decorating part is the only thing holding me back - I find it really tedious and boring lol) but hopefully I will get on it one of these days!

You can use any graphic editor to work on your map.

I also enjoyed running mojos' version of the UK map. Well thought out and challenging. With my settings - Robber Baron and hard routing - it was tough going at first, but in the end I managed to complete all goals around 30 years early, with a clockwork movement of trains.
Despite the random placement of resources, there is a lot of structure to the scenario, it is quite cleverly thought out. This augurs well for your own unique map - looking forward to it! :D

Thanks for the encouragement! And wow, I'm impressed with your game skills with 30 years to spare! I just barely made it to victory and I had the advantage of having set the conditions myself! lol
