Quad City Lake in Winter Season by Rodea2007

Post by Rodea2007 » Mon Jun 30, 2008 5:59 am

This map I release to answer my question that is possible to change trees in Ohio in Holiday map by Lowell with snow effect. Those trees this map is clutter not Decoration. only need a little work to changed it. That's simple way to use this map, extract rar file into UserMaps Folder then you can play this map.
The base map is original map MP_06 only edited Terrain and Clutter with adding snow
Enjoy with it.... :P

Just simple away, only edit RRT_Clutters_yourmap.xml and recolor what dds file needed, that is provided in rar file

Hello Rodea2007 I suppose the next step is to add snow to all the default buildings. like grain and timber etc.

I think lowell has painted snow on some of his in the Holidays_In_Ohio-ToyTrains CIC v2.0 see pic

PS I add your fix to lowells map to see what it looked like as well.

Very clever Rodea. Not only does it look really good it also makes you feel cooolllllddd.
I think the forum will have to appoint you as chief of map scenery development.
Terima Kasih Banyak
After posting this comment I went back to playing the game and as I moved around the map I noticed some things that are worth pointing out for your enjoyment. Before you start the map put your shadows on high and tree density high, then scroll around and have a look.
Notice how there is no water movement in the rivers in that they actually look frozen. Also notice how the snow is not consistently thick in that it looks windswept particularly on the bare hills, creating a dazzling effect.
This is a work of art.

hello dwax

Its all there this is like a SAM - CIC map just unrar and shove into your maps folder. Remove any other maps in there.

You dont need SMRI or anything else. I havnt played it but it starts up and was able to lay track without a ctd so the this map should run as it has all the standard game industries etc. (apart from the snow etc.)

We all have been trying to add new trees in the clutter menu and have not had sucess with adding new trees to the game. Have you made a "new" tree with a "new" clutter number...or have you overwritten an in-game tree? I am going to download your map and see.
I think lowell has painted snow on some of his in the Holidays_In_Ohio-ToyTrains CIC v2.0 see pic
I am working on an update for that map set, I had painted some trees already, but I was trying to add them as new trees for the editor and it wouldn't take my number change/addition. I forgot about the map being a CIC map, maybe I can let the game overwrite the trees DDS for just that map only, then I don't have to make a new tree, just temporally overwrite the trees DDS file.

"I had thought of painting white on the games default industries, but there is only so many days you can live in PhotoShop before you get totally bored..." :D but the new update will have several new addons added to the map.

That is an interesting "green" color added to the landscape, but I have never seen green in snow, maybe a tiny bit of blue, and on nights where the ground is covered with deep snow and a full moon...it has a blueish tone to it. :)

EDIT// Okay I see what you have done. This will work fine as long as you have a CIC or self contained style map as it overwrites the games dds file for those trees. I still haven't found that mini map game triangle...I looked everywhere. I might be able to do something like this and get the palm, orange and lime trees in the F/G map...I am going to try some experiments, it looks like this might just work...thanks.

 Very clever idea, Rodea - well done, once again! Had to try out the effect immediately, looks great! :P

Lowell, the green hue you mention is visible in the distance on the lake border in my first and especially in the last screenshot. I fixed that with brute force - I repainted the tga.map white, took me 30 seconds and that certainly bleached the snow, as you can see in the middle two pictures.

Oh cool...I am working on a update for my holiday map, I can use those too. No need for the fpk...just need the dds file, then I can rename and rebuild it as a new model.

 This could be an interesting project. I will try repaint all of the houses, industries, trees and buildings for winter, fall and summer.
