Middle Earth Map

Post by Jancsika » Mon Jun 16, 2008 3:42 pm

This is the Fourth Age of Tolkien’s Middle Earth.
Since it is a parallel universe to ours it developed almost like our Earth but with some differences which with the limitation of the available SAM-s will become apparent.
You will note that the Hobbit and all the other small folks is a rather peace-loving people, who are fond of two things: beer and gold.
The terrain is wild, there have been several catastrophic upheavals in the past, but the industrious people of the land overcame it and built passes through the un-passable wilderness and are prospering……..

The game is a single player 12 X 12 map. There are scenario goals, but making money is not one of them. (The rush to make money always interferes with the proper track building) I tried to make a map to emphasize the smart track layout. The tunnels are very expensive, but there are on-grade passes through the mountains to make the track laying a possible. It is like building a model railroad. The time allotted for the scenario 4 Eras should be more than enough.
NEW ONE STEP INSTALLATION
This is a stand-alone map! No other map or scenario is needed to run it!
Empty your C:\My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier’s Railroads!\ folder, either rename it or delete the existing folders.
Keep the “Settings.ini” file. Don’t worry the game will make new folders when started.
There is a download link below.
Download it, decompress it, and click on the download link to my FTP site. The download should start automatically.
I have to do this because this site will not take larger than 2 Mb files.
This way you will have one large installation file that you have to decompress into the UserMaps folder.
This should work. If any more problems: just let me know.
Have fun.

Map Looks fantastic, can't wait to go home and try it.
18 possible 'in city' industries :!:
How do you manage that :?:
I thought you could only see a dozen industry icons to build on those empty metropolitan lots.
Guess I'll have to try it and see what happens...

Hello Jancsika,

Can you post a link to one zip file only as I think you have the files mixed up or some missing.

CTD's on startup missing files

UnzipME-1 gives you
ME-1
- Usermaps folder
pile of .FPK (outside the map folder)

May I suggest a tidy file structure

one file folder (map name)and in there all the xml and in that one folder called assets folder with all the fpk's files bits and peices. :D

please post complete one zip file.

You have to place the UserMaps folder in C:\My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Railroads!\ folder, replacing the existing folder with the same name.

Check with the file list in my first post.

The reason the files are broken up,because of the upload limitation of this site. There is a 15 MB file limit and also there is a time limit. Any file larger than 5-6 MB will get timed-out at the upload.

I am going to check the upload if any file is missing!
Thanks

Hi mutantz, no problem, I never rename my folders. As long as your UserMaps and CustomAssets folders are empty (ie no usermods loaded - the Firaxis stuff in there is OK) SAM and CIC maps run perfectly in the existing folder, drop and play, no installation, no crashes! Life is beautiful! 8)

Karsten's right...I never rename my SMR folder and make a a new SMR folder, just copy all FPK to CustomAsset Folder and the new map to UserMaps Folder, is like Florida Gold 400 this map put in Usermaps with West Sumatera Map and others, No Crashes No CTD, but to remember you must add XML a new Good, Train and Traincars to Global XML then delete all Global XML in new Map

Hi Rodea2007 and Jancsika

I figured it out and plays on Vista (just started.)

Sorry this map is nothing like Florida Gold if you look at the instructions to install it. (One file unzip and copy.)

All very well to create new folders and multi zips etc but you need to place better instructs where everything goes as they are not easy to follow for all people. (me included)

These are XP instructs and Vista is different

Vista C:\Users\Your Name \Documents\My Games\Sid Meier’s Railroads!\
First empty your C:\My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier’s Railroads!\ folder, either rename it or delete the existing folders.Keep the “Settings.ini” file. Don’t worry the game will make new folders when started.
Second: unzip ME-1 and drag (copy) the “UserMaps” folder into C:\My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier’s Railroads!\
Third unzip ME-2, ME-3, ME-4 and copy the FPK files into the just created “UserMaps” folder.
The above does not work what is missing here I beleive is what Rodea2007 has advised:

Unpack ME-1 and in there copy UserMaps folder as advised and those other files like .FPK dump into folder CustomAssets leaving where to place MiddleEarth.SMR_Scenario (ME-3 zip)

The issue is I dont use any other custome maps SMRI due to CTD's and as there is no previous content you need to say where to place the files.

I have moved MiddleEarth.SMR_Scenario to the CustomAssets folder.

Also I dont have any global files as the went with SMRI to the delete bin.

Note object here is to provide clearer instructs for all users. :D

Hello Jancsika

I like the layout in your map and no CTD's so far running pretty smoothly.

I like maps with some hills, rivers and places hidden behind hills etc.

I like the trains you have and its nice to start with something faster than a snail. :D

couple of small things so far.
1. Isenport graphic is small compared to other places.
2. Gold cars look like mail cars
3. Tharbad in the middle of a river

Completed the beer haul and seems to need switch grain to food production. Cattle is my current issue as not producing any. Will play some more tommorow.

If I take out the tracks it moves. Is there something missing? Looks like maybe an industry is missing. I looked at all the zip files and all was put where it's suppose to be. :(
