Europe Huge Map created by PaF Daddy

Post by PaF-Daddy » Sat Aug 18, 2007 4:18 pm

PaF Daddy is back!!!!

THIS IS THE ENGLISH VERSION OF A BIG EUROPE (15 * 15) MAP

All in all its a fusion of the scenarios UK, France, Germany. You will have enemies from that scenarios and the trains from the 3 scenarios too. The main point was to create a simple map that contains many cities and many landscape aspects like hills, flatland, mountains, islands.

Cities included are: Lisbon, Porto, Sevilla, Madrid, Bilbao, Gijon, Valencia, Malaga, Zaragoza, Barcelona, Bordeaux, Nantes, Paris, Metz, Lyon, Marseille, Milan, Trieste, Bologna, Bari, Rome, Naples, Palermo, Cagliari, Bern, Vienna, Munich, Frankfurt, Berlin, Stuttgart, Hamburg, Brussels, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Goteborg, Stockholm, Bergen, Oslo, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Belfast, Liverpool, Cardiff, London, Dublin, Tallin, Riga, Vilnius, Gdansk, Warsaw, Breslau, Prague, Budapest, Zagreb, Sarajevo, Belgrad, Tirana

The download contains a "special version" of Europe DELUXE. A lot of things i have changed to get to a new level of gameplay. Resources are randomized.

Some points:
- Villages accept passengers and mail. They also create 2 passengers and 1 mail
- slightly improved AI (I Hope)
- Bridges and tunnels costs changed, more expensive
- terminals, stations, annexes costs changed, more expensive
- costs of trains edited
- costs of industry and their goods changed
.. and many tiny things i forgot

The other download contains a "standard" version where the original Railroads! settings are used.

Installation: put the folder "Europa Deluxe Special Version" into X:\...\My Games\Sid Meier's Railroads!\UserMaps

Have fun

Has Anybody got the standard version to work? I get an error message during loading that says the current map size is 225 and it cannot load a map of 400 square units. In the map scenerio it says it's a 15x15 map so is the tga messed up or something else?

Enjoyable map. No problems found.

Some of the mountains may be a little too high, but that only hinders seeing track laying.

Incidentally whats the key for rotating the map?

PaF Daddy is back!!!! is a understatement WOW

I left this map for a while thinking my poor old machine would CTD or freeze up but after reading this post about CTD possible reason http://hookedforums.com/a/viewtopic.php?t=1918 I increased my page file size I was able to play and complete the scenario.
The main point was to create a simple map that contains many cities and many landscape aspects like hills, flatland, mountains, islands.
That it does - This map is huge. I enjoyed it but comparing to the more spacious 10 x 10 map with industries and cities more spread out I think there is just to much in this map.
ToDo´s: -Create some nice victory conditions (with your help if you get some ideas Smile )
By the time I got everything connected and Metropolis done I had triple tracks and lots of trains and adding more to the scenario would make the map very crowded.

Perhaps some variety into the map as at the moment its just a oversized standard map. (with great landscape)

Maybe add Visitors as well as passengers, Hotel and Casino, airbases, ship some tanks, maybe a container port or a express train Paris to London but that's a another thing the cities are way to close together.

What I mean most of the cities rely on passengers and mail and you cant see any other industries. (Currently not that many anyway)

I am preferring the smaller 10 x 10 maps just concentrating on a smaller area with a great scenario and this way you have lots of room to add all the various industries.

Thx for the replies...
The problem is that the ai seems to have a maximum build range... if a city isnt in that range the ai would not build tracks to it.

But i know what you mean. The best example is Paris London. Or Vienna. So i have to look up the populations of several cities again and edit their sizes.

Also the random placed industries are placed very "weird" sometimes.
Maybe add Visitors as well as passengers, Hotel and Casino, airbases, ship some tanks, maybe a container port or a express train Paris to London but that's a another thing the cities are way to close together.
I made the map via several topographical maps from the internet. Finally the problem is that the size of 15x15 is too small to get all the main cities "well" placed. I tried my best but 20x20 maps are maybe not as much customer friendly.

Update is incoming

Thank you for your work.

If I may suggest something: Please make it a habit including a readme file in your rars
where you mention the text that you wrote in your topic:

Installation: put the folder "Europa Deluxe Special Version" into X:\...\My Games\Sid Meier's Railroads!\UserMaps

Many players store these maps on their HD and need to reinstall them after, for example, a C-disk format.
When doing so, they will not stumble on the information mentioned in this topic.

Greets and thanks,
Bushdoctor.

I'm having the same problem. If anyone knew what is happening that would be great, thanks!

If you have the other Europa map installed (by tomasvicente) you may get a conflict.
Shame on PaF-Daddy for making the names the same. ;)

I do... and the other one works fine. What can I do to solve? Will renaming tomasvicente's map to something else (as in, just renaming its folder) and reinstalling this one work, or is changing a map name more complex in SMR?

Thanks,

K.
