Maryland SAM

Post by Jancsika » Wed Mar 11, 2009 4:16 pm

New Files New Files New Files
The FPK files have been cleaned up and compacted. The whole map is compacted into four ZIP files.
As usual, just unzip them into the UserMaps folder.

These are the list of folders that you should have in the UserMaps folder.
Maryland.........................Game folder
MD_V_3_00_#1_Hooked.............FPK folder
MD_V_3_00_#2_Hooked.............FPK folder
MD_V_3_00_#3_Hooked.............FPK folder
MD_V_3_00_#4_Hooked.............FPK folder

It is a typical SAM (Stand Alone Map)
The map size is 15 X 15.

The FPK files are from Rodea's West Sumatera map. If you have not played that map, you will find this a completely new design. Originally this was a CIC type design and I have converted it to SAM.

Rodea created new industries, trains, traincars. There are new Ports, Offshore oil rigs, Corn fields, Cotton fields, Apple orchards (was Rambutan), Peach orchards, Bank and a lot more.

It is a very challenging scenario. You have to fulfill some difficult production quotas.
There are three different Eras with different goals. You will have to watch the track layout and probably relay them at least twice.

Wish you would just upload like to Deposit files or Megaupload the full file. I always have a problem getting the split files to run after unzipping them. :(

Edit:
Tried to run it and it CTD. Went to the folder and saw there were 7 different folders in the main one. Have no idea how to sort that out. :? :(

Here is the content of the UserMap folder:
Maryland............This is a folder where the scenario located
Maryland_ FPK_1.....This is an FPK file
WS_Industries1.0A...This is an FPK file
WS_Industries1.0B...This is an FPK file
WS_Industries1.0C.. This is an FPK file
WS_Industries1.0D.. This is an FPK file
WS_Interface1.0... .This is an FPK file
WS_TrainCars1.0.. ...This is an FPK file
WS_ Trains!1.0.........This is an FPK file
Therefore your UseMap folder should contain 1 folder (Maryland) and the 8 FPK files as listed above.

I don't know how you zip them up, but when I use WinZip to unzip them they are all in a different folder. There is no way that I know of to separate them. I also tried to use WinRar with no luck. can you use http://www.sendspace.com/ to upload the whole file?

I also had dramas getting this map to run. On a couple of maps I have to put the .fpk files into custom assets to get it to run. Dwax, if you end up getting this map to go would you please post how you did it.
Jancsika, Is there anything different about your version of the game as I have difficultys with all your maps and very few problems with any other's. For example. after I downloaded the zips yesterday and couldnt get it to run I did a fresh install of SMR, patched and cracked it. Still ctd.
Anyone apart from Dwax have trouble with Jancsika's maps.

The problems I run into are do to the files in the wrong place. When I unzip them they go to separate folders. Then you have to figure out where they go. With the last map there were just to many folders to figure it out. :? But Jancsika's got some great maps. :D

Because of the limitations of this forum (5 file maximum upload)
That's per post...not per thread. All you have to do is make two posts and post them all. 4 per is eight. 5 attachments per post, they could be images, files etc.

Ok Guys! lets take it one by one! :D

I checked on Bobby's site, and found that some of the files were downloaded 6 times, some 7 times, some 8 times. Appearently if you are missing a ZIP it won't work.

I have made a test and downloaded it from the Web, and installed it as it supposed to be and it worked.

Here is the procedure, step by step.

1. Delete, or rename C:\.....\ Documents\ Sid Meier's Railroads!\ folder.
2. Start a new game (any stock Firaxis map). That will create a new, clean, C:\.....\ Documents\ Sid Meier's Railroads!\ folder. Copy your old Settings.ini file into the new folder. (That is your game settings, like sound, clouds, editor, etc)
3. Download the 8 ZIP files into this C:\.....\ Documents\ Sid Meier's Railroads!\UserMaps\ folder.
4. Unzip it right into this same Folder. The Unzip program will ask where you want to have the new file. All you have to do is: pick HERE. (or something similar, depending on the Zip program you use)
5. You will have 9 folders in the UserMaps folder. Don't do anything else! This is all you need! Just start playing!

I just did these things and it works for me, and it should work for you.

But if there is still some problem, let me know.

I will eventually upload the files to this forum. I like to keep the programs on the railroads forums. This way more people have access to them.

jancsika.
I installed this map as per usual with SAMs, the same as you suggested but it just ctd's on building up steam. Tried putting FPKs into custom assets. No go.
It's not to do with your building of the map as everyone else seems to be able to get theirs going, so it has got to do with my version of the game which wont allow your maps to run on my system. 'Such is life'

You must be missing something when download, because I didn't have any problem with this map, but if you have WSM Map you can use WSM FPK for the Maryland Map.

Plus, you will still need the "Maryland_FPK_1" Folder (or file) in your UserMaps folder.

Jancsika, excellent scenario! I liked having to follow things like the recycled parts through 6 steps to get to a final product. It was also fun trying to figure out the input output ratios without reading the XML files. Rodea2007's bank was a nice touch.

Okay, that's the good part. The bad part was the end. DSC Cement would not register when shipped from Richmond, Easton or Fredrick to any of the ports. I could see it leaving, watch the numbers count down at the distribution center. I watched it arrive at the port, I got paid for delivering DSC Cement and took the coins away. But the Victory Screen wouldn't show deliveries.

BTW, I CTD'd over and over until I not only did a clean install but shut down all unnecessary files.

My System:
2 yr old Duo 3GHz cpu
Cheesy 256 MB video
Standard Seagate hard drive
4 GB Ram (median speed)

And once again, great Scenario!

Sorry I have missed that.
First: thanks for the kind comments.
Here is the problem:
The ports are not in the Cities. They are “On Site” industries”, just like Grain Farms or Coal Mines and the goods delivered to them will not show up in the count if it is made to “ANY CITY”.
I will have to create something like a “Village of the Port of Baltimore” and have the port in them in order to count. I just did not like the idea to have a port grow to be a Metropolis.

<szCityTo>ANY_CITY</szCityTo>

I wonder if our programing experts have a better idea!?
