New England
New England
Map Name : New England
Map Size : 169 x 169
Scenario : In Planning
Multiplayer : Yes
Version : BETA 0.30
Status : Released Beta
**********************
Initial Release date: 01-15-07
Thanks for trying my map of New England.
This map was made free hand and gives a general depiction of New England terrain, city placement, industry and resources. There was no real amount of gold around here as far as I know, but there are many other recourses that I will represent with gold and Coal mines.
The year is 1835.
See if you can be a true Railroad Tycoon in the Tycoon's back yards.
For now it’s just a Custom/Multiplayer map with random industries.
Planning on making a true scenario as soon as I can figure it out the XML and have the time.
This is still in beta and can’t seem to get the fisheries to spawn. If you know how to straighten that out please let me know.
(EDIT: Fisheries work when you check: Randomize landscape)
This map is for SMR (v) 1.10 and uses just the stock/vanilla industries that came with the game.

Thanks busch..zzbusch wrote:Nice map! Very well made. This is the most realistic landscape I've seen. Did you import a .tga for the map?
I made the map from scratch/freehand.
Just used a handful of printed images to compare as I went along.
I wanted to include NY City but ran out of room..
Suggestions always welcome.

Kenster - I just spent an hour looking into getting those fisheries to show. I even used your map as a base in the editor and set a fishery in place. It showed, but when I removed the placement part of it, no more fidhery.
For some reason those New England fish don't want to be caught.
Maybe someone from Firaxis can look into it. The only thing I can see is that possibly as there is not enough room in some of the water areas once the game cannot place one, it doesn't place any.

I'm correct 97% of the time..... who cares about the other 4%....
Thanks for giving it a look over snoop.snoopy55 wrote:Kenster - I just spent an hour looking into getting those fisheries to show. I even used your map as a base in the editor and set a fishery in place. It showed, but when I removed the placement part of it, no more fidhery.

My original New England map has all static industries and everything worked fine, including several fisheries/docks. I figured the map would get more use with randomly generated industries so I removed all the <Locations>~</Locations>..
Leave it to me to break things
I was thinking it may be because I sloped the land down to the coastlines to give it a more realistic look..or as you said the no room in some areas of water is stopping all fisheries..
I'll have to make a test map from the map image and edit all the coastlines, then rivers and see what happens. More testing, testing, testing.. Unless one of the boys from Maryland wants to give us some info (Maryland is were Firaxis is located).
Ken
I have never gotten Fisheries to work without manually placing them.
I looked over you map and xmls and everything looks fine, but as for getting them to go its almost impossible. I even tried to get the game to place them on a fishery only goods map to see if it just wasn't putting them cause I had to many other industries.

I opened this map with the ingame editor and was able to place fisheries. You might have to do it that way, then cut/paste the XML generated into the proper New England XML.
Nice map, I quit working on my New England this was so good. Makes me look like an amateur.
Hey Ken, maybe you should add Jones's Tree Farm to the map.

I'm going to do a bit of testing with the RRT_Industries_UK.xml found in G:\Program Files\2K Games\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Railroads!\Assets\XML\_SCENARIOS_\UK folder. This is what the Rivers' Run mutiplayer uses also..
LOL..zzbusch wrote: Hey Ken, maybe you should add Jones's Tree Farm to the map.
How do you know about Jones' Tree Farm
My oldest son use to work there when he was younger.
I'm going to be making a scenario with static industries using this map or an updated version (BIGGER)snoopy55 wrote:Ken - maybe you should do 2 maps, one with everything placed so you can have fisheries and on without placement, without fisheries.

I grew up in Westport and moved to Fairfield before I moved here 4 years ago. We always bought xmas trees there.Kenster wrote:LOL..zzbusch wrote: Hey Ken, maybe you should add Jones's Tree Farm to the map.

It is a small world after all...zzbusch wrote: I grew up in Westport and moved to Fairfield before I moved here 4 years ago. We always bought xmas trees there.
I grew up in Fairfield and moved to Shelton 16 years ago.
Well, I guess we should keep this thread on maps, but very cool to see a fellow nutmegger in here.
Ken
Hey you two, I just did some playing around and if you want, you can name one of those logging companies after that place. Go into my Industries Master file and look at say the Gold Mines. Copy the <DisplayName. section to the map and change the names to match Logging. Place 4 names, with your Jones Tree Farm first. If you locate each item, you can place it near where it really is.

Kenster,
I grew up in Maine...If you're a CT flat lander....what's the deal with spelling New London with an E? This map is addictive but it keeps killing my machine. I've got 2 GB RAM and a 256 MB Memory Card.
Don't know why it does that but I really love running trains between Portland and Boston!!!
Can you tweak that? My saved files are over 11mb. I can send you if you like.
Keep up the good work. I live in Ohio now and playing this map brings me back to my childhood. I only wish Fireaxis would add a Budd Zephyr / Flyin Yankee to the Diesel Locomotive inventory.
