Asking for Disc?

Post by fyrfyter » Sun Oct 03, 2010 8:14 pm

I have been lurking here for awhile, but this is my first post. I got tired of dealing with having to use the SMRR disc when playing the game. I like to be able to play it on both my laptop and my desktop whenever I want. So, last April, I caught SMRR on sale on direct2drive. Downloaded to desktop, ran through 3GB enabler, and all works great. I got around to finally messing with the laptop, which had already had the disc version installed. I uninstalled the disc version, and reinstalled the direct2drive version. Unfortunately, it did not ask for my key again, and it still wants me to insert a disc when playing. So my question is twofold, 1.) how do I keep the 3GB enabled version, but tell it to quit looking for the disc OR 2.) Where can I go to change the license number in hopes that the game will realize I have a copy that is valid to run without the disc? Thanks.

Nevermind, I finally got it figured out. After asking for the disc, it then asked me to activate the game. After that it would launch from the Railroads.exe in the game folder. I had to rerun the 3GB enabler on the new Railroads.exe in order for it to realize I was using a valid downloaded version of the game, and I did not need to have the disc in the drive to run the game. Voila! I am happy now.

I'm going to post a link to game copy world, the most popular source of no cd patches, but make sure you only visit the site if you are using fully patched firefox or chrome. The site is known for running some very nasty ads, a bit NSFW at times.

Assuming you've heeded my warning you'll find the patch you want as Railroads v1.10 [MULTI6] Fixed EXE #2 from way back in 2007: http://m0001.gamecopyworld.com/games/pc_railroads.shtml

Don't feel bad about using a no-cd patch, nearly ever long-term player I know does so as well. In the past we avoided the subject due to spam concerns but that doesn't seem like a valid excuse anymore.

thank you!! Now I can play the custom maps.

I already had the downloaded version, but I enjoyed this game very much and would like to have the original.

I bought the original version and it didn't work (¬¬)', but now I can play thank you!!
