First I was running the demo version, but the full game with the patch 1.10 freezes too when buying trains.
There are no mods loaded.
Other games installed on my computer:
- Anno 1701
- The Movies
- Civilization IV
- Civilization III
- Alpha Centauri
I have no idea how to solve the problem.

OK, I'm sorry bout that, what I should have asked was what MAPS are you running. Since you said you have no Mods loaded, you may have a problem since some require certain Mods.
Do a Ctrl-Alt-Del to view the Task Manager and see what is running. If you can do two monitors, put the Task Manager on the 2nd screen and play the game. Watch the CPU column and see what is trying to run.
Also, download Ad-Aware and Spybot. They are both free and will clean any junk from the Internet running in the background.
See if any of that helps.

I have a laptop less than a month old, 1 Gig RAM, 256 Graphic card-way above recommended specs. I've had to turn down the graphic options to min. and turn off all alerts and disable autosave and be carefull not to scroll around the map to fast for the game not to crash on a regular basis for me. I have spent a decent amount of time checking out all my hardware and getting the latest upgrades to my drivers and still have the same problems- So it's a software problem. Really annoying especially considering that there's a good game underneath.
I think, I found the solution for my problem.
I spendt a lot of time checking my system. I made a new setup for win xp, I was updating all drivers for the hardware... but the game still freezes.
Now I found out, when I disable the virus-scanning-programm the game runs without freezing (when buying trains)
Thanks for all your help.

Yes, other people have had problems like that too, I had to shut down Nero because it was waiting like a dog for any pic I accessed, it wanted to know if I wanted to save them. Another guy had his HP printer program sucking up CPU time in the background. Nasty little buggers
