Problems with Steam & Patch

First of all, apologies for posting this in the chat section and second, seasons greeting one and all.

I have recently got this game from steam (can't find my hard copy) and i can't update to 1.10 so i can start using the custom maps again. I am using a new laptop (8.1) so was hoping someone could help me out.

EDIT: I have downloaded the 1.10 and pasted into the correct folder. I've tried running a sam but it crashes after i choose which map to play from the main screen. There was no exclamation mark on my sid meiers railroads folder in my documents.

No need to patch manually.
Try a different map?

I have the same problem. I am unable to use the custom maps, or even the SMRI mod. I miss the Santa Trains
