PC Review - 'Trainz Railroad Simulator 2006'

Don't know why this hit on my alerts, since it was released on February 2, 2006, but the review has 18 screenshots with it. Sure looks a lot better than the toy cars we have with SMRR. Looks like a lot of our SMR issues were handled better with Trainz, too. Scenarios can be custom built & run without crashing, or needing countless tweaking to eliminate glitches. What's the story?

Trainz is a sim, not a strategy game so it's more like running a real railroad than reaching a set bunch of goals. I've got every version of Trainz including the original but haven't played it in awhile. I just got burned out as I was a beta tester from day one and just spent way too many hours using for the better part of 5 years. It's a great game though, and there are thousands of free downloads on the Auran download site which can easily be downloaded and installed with the included "content manager plus" program.

Thank you Sir, I understand better now. Apparently they're getting a new "Classics" version ready (July 9, 2007), that's why it showed in my news alerts. You must have had a lot of fun (& a lot of work) during your 5yr stint!
The idea of defeating opponents has grown on me, so I expect to stay with SMR for some time yet. Thanks again for a bang-on-target answer.

I've actually been in this model (in New Haven, Metro-North & Amtrak paint, not that green!).

You're most welcome and yes, it was way more fun than work though there were some long days and nights near the end of every round of testing when it wasn't always so much fun. I'm still a chat op on the official Trainz chat and I was a forum mod for probably 5 years as well, though I'm no longer have the time to do that job. It's a great sim, in my opinion a lot better than MSTS and I'm probably going to buy the new version and see if I have any Trainzing left in me :) I love the strategy type train games as well and was pretty big into RRT2 with a website and all. Railroads is what I'm mostly playing now but I'm very disappointed that Firaxis has dropped the game and there will probably be no more patches or an expansion pack. This could have been a hall of fame type game but now I'm afraid it's just going to die a slow and painful death and we will all be left wondering "what might have been".
