I'm New Help!

Post by Neilnm » Fri May 29, 2009 3:09 pm

Hi everyone,

I am new to this game, I was wondering if there is anything that I NEED TO KNOW, like a mod that everyone is playing, map packs, multiplayer, skins etc...

And also I was wondering the only thing that really disappoints me about this game is the fact that you can only build 3 side by side railways in a terminal and only one terminal per city... is there any mod to change this ? or add new features like a turning track ?

Thank you...

-Neil

Well, you can only build 3 side by side rails in a "Depot". Once you upgrade to Station and Terminal, you can do 4. Sometimes it may only say you have 3 connected to a terminal (by clicking your city's terminal). If that's the case, as it's happened to me, delete the 4th, unconnected track, and replace it.

I know there's been a couple updates for this game, namely version 1.10.

As for map packs or skins, etc. check the appropriate sections for info on those, though they are more specifically for people's created maps and building blocks for map makers.

Welcome to the Hooked on Railroads! forums, Neilnm.

It is best if you have one train per track. Try to avoid congestion as much as possible.

Greybriar, he's talking about tracks and terminals, not the trains that run on it.

And?
It depends on what you want to accomplish with the game.
If your goal is to “win”, that is to run the trains smoothly then Greenbrier's suggestion is the way to go.
Trains will run efficiently without delays etc.
If you want “real life”or even model train layout then you build single, (Maybe double) lines between the stations, then expand the stations to 3 or 4 tracks with switches, etc.
Of course you still can make lots of money this way too. You have to upgrade your stations to terminals, that will increase your passenger and mail income also will permit you to have 4 track at the stations.
Only you have to be careful not to build looped tracks, that is to have two way for a train to from A to B, because the train will just bounce back and forth without getting to the destination.

Keep in mind that you can route infinite trains into a station. I don't recommend going beyond 8 though or your waiting time will begin to hurt you. Just know that while you can only have 3 trackheads at a depot, and 4 at a station/terminal, you can still route a boatload of trains into each trackhead, just make sure they don't use the same track elsewhere...
