Do any of you ever play online?

Post by Falconer » Fri May 02, 2008 8:40 pm

... I'm asking because I'm once again entertaining the idea of installing ladder software for the forums. The ladders would let you challenge others and compete for the highest place in the rankings. Useful? Or a feature that will never see any action?

I occasionaly play on line, and always lose.
I'd be interested in playing a custom map or two.
Not sure if I'd join a ladder competition though.

I play online about once a week. I lose alot but seem to be getting better. Sounds like a ladder would be cool.

I might very well bother to play a few rounds if we had a ladder in place. Although how exactly would it work?

mostly like any other ladder, I'd expect.

everyone gets an initial seeding thats intended to represent their skill level. once you're seeded into rungs, you can challenge those on a higher rung, and be challeneged by those on a lower one. Win a game vs a higher ranked opponent and you get their rank. Loose, nothing much.

Loose a game against a lower ranked opponent, and they get YOUR present rank, and you get theirs...

Now that the explaination is over..

I'd pass on this Falconer, as the only real online multiplayer game I play is Allegiance.

there must be more then that, I mean why ever would someone play against a lowwer player then? My question though was more aimed at how it would be implemented physically. Honor system?

I'd have to guess that there is some sort of penalty for refusing a challenge, Warll, otherwise you'd be correct.

as to the physical implementation, there is usually a piece of code that maintains the ladder, etc. You issue your challenge to the other player through it, you then decide on the time and place, then both of you record the results with the ladder code which then both compares the results for acccuracy, and makes the appropriate changes in the ladder standings.

TB... AHA!!! I see his secret, Snoopy... he's using the highly secrative TESSARACTBYTE system, where most of the storage is actually extra dimensional!

Always knew there was SOMETHING seriously different about you Warll... I have your extra dimensional number now, SUCKA :P :P   :P :P

Actually the joke was about a typo in my sig heres what it looked like before I fixed it just after my post:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+
Samsung 2253BW & 931BW
2048 MB DDR2
X-Fi XtremeGamer
HDD-1.18b Total
EVGA 8800 GTS 320MB
All cramed in a Antec P182

But no I really do have 1.8 Terabytes storage in total(320x2, 500, 750, all Seagates).

Edit: Oops seams I still have a typo in my sig, should be 1.8 and 1.18.

Ironic, I just made a new post about this. Falconer, that would be huge. Maybe a lot of the members here don't play online. But theres a few hundred of us that do and we'd love to see ladder software of any sort. It would create a whole new element and of course bring many new members to this site as a result.

Can you tell me how it would work and would you do it?????
That would be super cool.
