Motherboard.
I am trying to update my wife's computer, she has already 2- XFX GeForce 8800 GT/ 512 MB graphic card, the processor will be Intel Core 2 Duo e8400 3.0 ghz. I have to pick a decent sli motherboard under $200 and can't make up my mind. Any recommendations?

Re: Motherboard.
You sure the two 8800 aren't a little over board? By the way have you looked into the Q6600?

Re: Motherboard.
Every motherboard I've ever bought with the ASUS label has worked very well for me. I would trust them more than any other brand.

motherboard : Asus P5N-E SLI
processor: Dual Core 2.4 GHz
memory : 2046MB
video card: GeForce 8800GTS 640MB
operating system: winxp media
Display: 24" Dell at 1920x1200

I know that. But that's what she wants so that's what she gets. You sure the two 8800 aren't a little over board?
Beside she already has them.

Um ok. Wells is there anything else you need in the mobo? How many SATA ports? DDR two or three?
Re: Motherboard.
Micro Center has a Sale on the 680i Nvidia motherboard...it's a great deal. They also have the 780i in two models that are also on sale. Asus would be the next one down on the list for me, so those would be the top for me. The tech support for Nvidia is fantastic though...you can call them up about anything, great MoBo support.

The e8400 is a great CPU. I have it doing my computations. Fast and energy efficient.Jancsika wrote:I am trying to update my wife's computer, she has already 2- XFX GeForce 8800 GT/ 512 MB graphic card, the processor will be Intel Core 2 Duo e8400 3.0 ghz. Pity that the stock fan is so loud...
As for a mainboard: any Asus mainboard with an Intel chipset that supports the CPU and runs a 1333 system bus will be fine (don't buy mainboards with VIA chipsets as VIA chipsets don't spend enough time in the test labs to weed out bugs). Speed differences between different mainboards are neglicable these days. It's mostly features and price that make a mainboard interesting. Personally I have a P5K-E which has on-board WiFi. Very smooth and stable board.
