Patch 1.10. How do you...
...enable larger maps and change the speed that the time passes? Going by the changelog of the patch, you can edit a certain file to enable large maps and slow down the passage of time. Does anyone know how to do it?

I do believe that larger map size is automatic, nothing to do for that.
As to speed..... Wiki, Game Mechanics, The Game Interface, Changing the timescale. Wiki access is gotton by paying me $300... ORlooking at the line below that advertising box a little way up from here, far left.... I'd prefer the money of course

I'm correct 97% of the time..... who cares about the other 4%....

Thanks anyway, but that goes way over my head. I thought that the patch provided an easy choice of map size in the options menu. All I really want right now is a larger UK (the whole of it, not just England) map.

The patch simply allows the game to support larger than a 10x10 grid map. Beyond that though the game does not necessarily have a fixed limit (just hardware limits to the size of the map). People have created 20x20 maps (Florida Gold is one). Compare the 17x17 minimap to the 20x20 minimap and you will be able to see that there is more details in the 20x20 map. Also note that the larger the map the more resources that are required to run it.

I tried adding the '<MapSize>15</MapSize>' line to the Scenario XML of GB and a few other maps, but when I tried to load the game, it came up with a message saying that it can't load a map of that size and when the scenario came up, it was all ocean (with trains running around). Is there a simple way to edit the XML so you can increase the map size, or do you have to completely rewrite the entire XML (something I don't have the foggiest idea about doing)!!
Also, is there a way to add new resources to the game (such as aircraft factories) for later in the game, or are they there already, just not included in the manual? And what about new patents? They seem to all dry up after 1900 and I'm pretty sure that wasn't the case (otherwise how could diesels and so on be invented)? What would be good is a mod that keeps you on your toes through the different eras, because right now it seems that once you have your business up and running, the money rolls in and you don't have to change what you're carrying around. It would be good if certain technologies could fade or become more prominent based on the era you're in? And how about some completely new technologies for later in the game to spark more late game 'gold rushes'? While we're on the subject of the late game, which is the best difficulty setting to actually have at least one of your competitors still alive and kicking after 1900?
Oh and Happy New Year to one and all!

Questions, questions, questions.....
As to map size, unless you create the map, you cannot change that, what is, is.
Adding resources is a matter of either creating them yourself and including the XML code needed fof it or coping an existing Mod and the code needed into the maps XMLs.
Patents were discussed earlier, but not persued, at least not that I know of, I haven't seen any new ones.
As to technologies, you can add some if you can write the xml code for RRT_Events.xml. I remember trying to mess with the <szEarliestDate> and <szLatestDate>, but I don't think I got anywhere as to setting them. That might be another of those things which were included, but do not effect the game.
