Please Help me get the Game to Run

Post by Eldrane » Tue Sep 04, 2007 2:44 pm

When i install the game (legal copy!) I get a message saying
"Cannot find required DLL D:\autorungui.dll"
I've tried everything including hunting a copy of thefile and copying it into Windows 32 Folder to no avail.

Any Help greatly appreciated, Steve.

What OS are you using and can you show us your computer's specs. Anyway is this your first install? Are you on an admin user?

XP, This is about my 5th install trying to sort this out.
Is there an easy way to get details of my system specs to show you?
The game has run ok in the past, it them just failed to run so I reinstalled and got this message.
Thanks for your help, Steve.

You might try uninstalling and then running a registry cleaner (I use WinASO) and then reinstalling.

Zorander: I downloaded the Winaso demo and it allows repair of 10 items, I assumed it would be connected to a "shared dll" error but when I checked the list it came up with, the one I'm told is missing was not listed nor anything in a directory for Railroads?
Should I be checking anything else?

Dr Frag: Not sure what you mean can you explain?
If you mean have I tried opening the CD in My Computer and double clicking on thr setup file then yes, is there another way.

Also I just downloaded the demo to see if it was a cd prob but the demo will not run either... My other games seem to run fine apart from Oblivion which could be suffering from the same prob but I'm not certain if its the same issue.

Also Also, I've managed to install it on my wife's PC no probs runs fine but far tooooo slow...

Thanks for hanging in there on this one for me, It's a great game and I'd love to be playing it again

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having so many issues.

First off doubt if the SMR CD is faulty if genuine like you say (just checking not a downloaded iso image)

Are you a admin user account??? Must be a admin user to install

Check you have Service Pack 2 installed and latest dx9 c (will run better)

Check make sure you have enough free harddrive space

Then its down to why your PC cant install the game.

1. You can install other CD's no problems??? Will autorun other install CD's??
2. Do you have any programes like Noton, popup blockers running. You could try stopping all these or:
For Win XP reboot and while booting press F8 and go into safe mode as admin user and try installing the game. This will elimante any third party software.
3. Faulty CD drive?? Replace drive real cheap nowdays or:
1. go start => run and type sysdm.cpl
go Hardware => device manager =>

IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers choose secondary
right click properties on Secondary IDE Chanel
go to advanced and change Transfer Mode to PIO only ok reboot

Try installing the game now.

can change back to DMA if available if above does not work.

Ok it gets worse...
1. I uninstalled the game
2. I ran a reg fixer and it gave these messages
Danger Level Category Problem
MEDIUM PRIORITY Windows/MS-DOS Program Shortcuts File "C:\Documents and Settings\Steve Bunn\Recent\Sid Meier's Railroads!.lnk" has invalid link to file(folder) "C:\Program Files\2K Games\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Railroads!"

Danger Level Category Problem
HIGH PRIORITY Windows Registry COM/ActiveX Sections The key, "\CLSID\{5E2121EE-0300-11D4-8D3B-444553540000}\TypeLib\{5E2121EE-0300-11D4-8D3B-444553540000}", refers to invalid application path,"\TypeLib\{5E2121EE-0300-11D4-8D3B-444553540000}
MEDIUM PRIORITY Windows Registry File Extensions Sections The key, "\SMRailroadsSavedGame\shell\open", refers to invalid application path,""C:\Program Files\2K Games\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Railroads!\Railroads.exe" /FXSLOAD="%1""

3. I went through to control panel add/remove progs just to make sure the uninstall had left nothing behind but Railroads still appeared to be there! So I clicked on remove and it popped up a box saying
"Welcolme to Installsheild Wizard for ATI Catalyst Control Centre"

Any Help REALLY appreciated. Steve.

ATI, You don't have a partion on your drive do you? You mean want to just save yourself some time and set up a Railroads! only partion, not only would SMR run for sure it should also eliminate any conflicts with other programs.

My advice, keep running WinASO until you have a clean registry. Or pay the best $30 ever spent on a utility program. 8)

As a precaution, you might want to set a restore point before running the program.

Also, be sure no other programs are running in the background, especially any ad blockers and antivirus programs when installing.

Well I think I know what the issue is now I just don't know how to fix it and can't afford another $30 to fix one game.

1.I've uninstalled the game
2.Gone to Conttrol panel and its still showing there in Add/Remove programs
3.When I click to remove from list it starts to install ATI Catalyst Control centre!!!

I just need to know how to get rid of this specific entry in Add/remove without having to spend another $30

Any help really appreciated.

As I said above, keep using the Trial version of WinASO until you get a clean registry.

Hello

Why Why Why are you spending $30 to fix this game!!!!

Add-Remove Pro 2.10
Add-Remove Pro This free tool shows you want is in the Add-Remove Programs list, which entries are valid, and allows you to uninstall or remove any entry.

http://www.soft32.com/download_9082.html

Try http://www.ccleaner.com/ this has a free reg cleaner, will remove entries from the registry.

Guys you don't need to spend money on things like this and advising hard drive partitions to most people will screw there xp operating system.

Also reg cleaners can cause more issues than they are trying to fix.

The more you play under the hood without a through understanding (not trying to sound condescending here) of what you are doing in a short space of time a re installation of XP will be in order.
