I kinda like the shortness in game aspect for the degree that your first few choices really matter. You have to set a route where A took food to B then went back to A to get food for C. In this situation you could simply create a Manufactured Goods market at B so that you were shuttling stuff back to A when you touched B and C so you weren't just using a train only for food.
