Yup, problem with map size is latter-game performance though. I cannot be certain but it seems to me that the decision to make maps the size they are comes from difficulties to keep the game running smoothly in the last 30-45 mins of the game.

True, but it would be even better if the grid lock problems themselves were solved. :)

Other suggestion added.

*updated* @ rupert: I ran Railroads at minimum settings on a lowly Radeon 9800 Pro. I run it now with a 7900GS TOP and the performance of the game hasn't changed. I don't think the solution to the performance problems lies in the graphics. @jturie: I believe an editor is being worked on yes. Also, i...

In the beginning I didn't identify the problems I saw with Dual Cores either. Took me a while to figure it out. I do think that the Core Duo is suffering from these problems less often than the X2, but I have read many people fix the oddest problems by changing CPU affinity. Anyways, it doesn't hurt...

Yup, if anything, it is RRT2 simply because Sid/Firaxis was never involved in RRT2 and 3. This is only the second trains&railroads game to come from Sid Meier's hand. Firaxis has taken towards a more arcade-ish style of gameplay: fast paced, easy to learn (simplified), fun over realism. You either l...

Dual Core CPU problems

All, Many games have problems running on Dual Core CPU's. Railroads! (for me at least) is no exception. I had various problems that went away as soon as I set the game's affinity to CPU 1. To do this, try the following: - Start the game normally - ALT-TAB out of the game - Press CTRL-ALT-DELETE to b...

Yeah but in Civ4 you can still select Epic mode, so it's your own choice then. :)

Do games feel short to you?

A game takes a couple of hours to complete and I really feel like I'm missing out on so many opportunities. Don't get me wrong, I have lots of fun playing for those few hours, but wouldn't it be great if you could play for days on the same map, expanding, creating new businesses, battling it out wit...

Not so sure about that either... Tricky stuff that, before you know it, your own tracks are overcrowded by AI trains..
