I had the same problem with SMR Map Shifter assuming that the game directory is “Sid Meier’s Railroads!” with an exclamation point. I used a hex editor to edit the string myself to make it work.

* Back up the SMR executable, on my system “C:\Program Files (x86)\SMRMapShifter\SMRMapShifter.exe”
* Run a hex editor (e.g. HxD) as administrator and open the original .exe
* Search for the string (I searched for “ailroads!” and found only one occurrence).
* Change the exclamation point to a backslash and the backslash to hexadecimal 00 (edit the hexadecimal value, typing a period “.” won’t work).
* Save the file

I think this should work whenever the game path is shorter than the one assumed by SMR Map Shifter, extra zeros at the end of the string are typically ignored in the C world.

If your game isn’t installed in default directory I don’t think map shifter works. My game is installed on my data drive (F: in my case)and I have to use manual method of playing custom maps. At least I haven’t got map shifter to work so far. Manual method of cut, paste, and extract works on all maps I have tried. If there is a way to configure map shifter to find and use non-default game directories I’ve not figured it out yet.

You should put the VB version up as well for the people having trouble with the C version.

For me it doesn’t work. I have the files copied to the right folder. I can select the new maps but the loading page freezes at “Miscounting rivets”. What could I have done wrong?

i downloaded some of these maps, i installed them with this mapshifter but can’t find them anywhere not in game and not in the files from SMR

Also, sometimes new maps, for some 2K reason, end up in the middle of the Original maps. You may have to skim through them all to find it.

does anyone know where to get a working no-cd crack for 1.1.0.0??

1st, sorry for my english.. not too good..

2nd.. i’ve downloaded the kentucky map n the smr map shifter..

i run the map shifter, select the map file, it unzipped everything to my:

user\my documents\my games\sid meier’s railroads!\usermaps\

but when i play the game.. single player.. i don’t see the kentucky map..

why is that?

im using win7 ultimate 32bit..

my game version is 1.0.0.0 (58113)

is it cuz of my game version?
