Recreating an Old

Post by d53642 » Sun Jul 10, 2011 11:52 am

Need some feedback on this. Bobby had issues with it and so did Karsten but it worked fine on mine for over 2 hours of play.

I play on HARD and ROBBER BARON with 1 or more AI. Its intended for atleast 1 AI. I have given plenty of extra time for the testing.

Congratulations, you have come across the random event crash. :D

This happens when a random event relates to a good not included in your map. It was one of the most frequent crash reasons in the past, long ignored by the SAM people. Fortunately, more modern SAM maps are aware of the problem and avoid it (as do CIC maps, of course).

The solution is easy: have only events that relate to your own map goods in your random event XML, or, even easier, have only boom, bust and share decline events, which don't relate to goods at all. That is the solution I applied in my recently released "German East Africa" map. 8)

I thought I went through all the xml's to make sure I had the right indust, goods, events and r. stock.

But I guess I missed something.

Thanks for the help Kar.

You need to have your own RRT_Events_mymapname.xml file, and also reference it in the scenario. Otherwise the game will use the comprehensive default event file, which works fine for quite a while, until the game chooses (at random) an event not matched by any good in your map, which then crashes the game. The last entry in the log is the evidence.

I still have my own event file and the map already does that via the scenario.

I just played through it np's, need to setup the scenario's now for the map and run a few more tests and then it will be uploaded here for further testing and once that is done I will finish up the deco's for it and be released.

Map is coming along nicely, I have added some new assets into it. I have a couple more to do then write the tasks. I wanted to put a little more into it, but with the map being half water there just isn't enough space for everything.

Thanks again Bobby and Karsten for your help.
