noob question - HOW DO I SAVE XML FILE AFTER MODIFYING IT?

Post by HARGIS » Sun Dec 21, 2008 12:37 am

I am trying to modify the time scale on the maps, but when I change the xml in word or note it says i need to change the filename to save it. Will changing the filename not mess up the scenerio?

sounds more to me like the problem is the file has been opened as read only. check the access flags for it, and that your not trying to edit the file while the game is running.

Yes. It was opened as "read only." I am a historian/teacher, which means that I am not computer-savy. How do I open it without it being a "read only" file?

I checked under "properties" and the "read only" box is not checked, so that is not the problem.

EDIT: I figured it out. I had to move the folder to the desktop to modify it and then move the folder back to the appropriate folder. (I HATE Vista!!!)

Well, I figured out how to modify and save the xml file, but it is not taking effect in the game. I set it at "64" but it is still only taking 5 seconds per month.

Would it too be difficult to upload the whole file so that we can look at it.
Or can you e-mail it to me?

I finally figured it out today. I didn't download the patch from the official website yesterday. After I downloaded the patch, it is working great.

I have put a lot of hours on this game the last two days and it has only crashed to desktop once. I guess that is pretty good for a game that is not compatible with Vista.

I haven't been playing much since the Spring semester has started, but it is working pretty well. I just keep one modified map on the game at a time to make it run smoother.

I really enjoyed the Alaska map and the Texarkana map.
