British Columbia Gold
British Columbia Gold
Story: This is one of the first maps on the forum, by Chuck "CeeBee" Barkman, still tremendously modern in its use of scenery and hard-as-nails goals (as Robber Baron, you are almost guaranteed to fail).
You get to connect British Columbia with Canada, the way real railroads did it, following scenic lakes, rivers and other valleys.
Tips: A good starting position is crucial, and as Robber Baron, the initial scouting of opportunities is vital. If you manage to set up a *money machine* as illustrated, you should be OK. Because industries are random, no two games are alike, so replay value is high. In the end though, most winning maps will exhibit a clustering of settlements along the rivers, which is remarkable. On the lower difficulty levels, you can go for an even smoother "railroad" look.
AI: Can be played with AI participation, although designed for single player. In Robber Baron the map is tough, so the AIs never really achieve much.
Comment: Download the compressed rar file below, unpack and copy into your USERMAPS folder. I fixed an annoying stability issue that had tended to crash the map unpredictably, often early in the game. As stand-alone map, it runs smoothly to completion now. Remember, this should be the only map in your UserMaps folder, and the CustomAssets folder needs to be perfectly empty.

Re: OLD but GOLD: Tips and Tricks for SMR maps
Lots of "real" water in British Columbia.
