A Request
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shinkansen
I've talked to TIJER about doing a Japanese map. Someone making one would have two maps, a normal 'freight/passenger' map and a Shinkansen(Shink) map. (no, prior to this post I had seen these trains, but never paid any attention to the name or thought of mapping them...you get the credit) You would have a short date, many turn per month requirement. And, because of a 'no freight on the Shink track' rule, you couldn't do any freight because a freight train would have no problems going over to a Shink line.
The TVG is close to the Shink. A bit of remodeling or just re-skinning could do it.
Have YOU ever thought of DOING it?

I'm correct 97% of the time..... who cares about the other 4%....
The SMR speed cap is 200mph. Since none of the Bullet Trains (Shinkansen) run scheduled service that fast, it should not be a problem. Granted, they have reached the mid to mid-high 200's in test runs but thats not germane.
Speeds Today
Along the Tokaido line series 300 trains operate at a top speed of 270km/h or 168mph (since 1992).
Along the Sanyo line series 500 trains operate at a top speed of 300km/h or 186mph (since 1997).
Along the Tohoku line series 200 E2 + E3 trains operate at 275km/h or 170mph (since 1997), the rest at 240km/h or 150mph (since 1988).
Along the Joetsu line series 200 "F9x" sets operate at 275km/h or 170mph (since 1990).
Along the Hokuriku line E2 trains operate at 260km/h or 162mph (since 1997).
Average speed
Between Hiroshima and Kokura the bullet train covers the 192km or 120mile distance in only 44 minutes. It averages a speed of 262km/h or 164mph which is the fastest scheduled train service in the world.

Hey, aren't we all at some point.....the only Mod that don't work is the one you don't try. (in reality, if you make enough changes and adaptations, sooner or later you can get something working that is close....)
Look thru what is available in the game here and find something close to what you're looking for. Find some pictures on the net, zip them up, maybe post one here, and upload the rest. Add a load of 'Please', 'I left my knee pads at work and I'm in pain', 'I can't sleep at night cause it flies accross the screen in my sleep' or something like that, and someone here may take up the challenge.
Look thru the Wiki on how to make a map, read some of the tutorials here on the forum and try to do a map of Japan. You'll get help if you need it. Once that's done, or started, we might have someone that thinks it looks naked without a Shinkansen screaming across it.
As to speed, just slow down the speed of all the rest of the trains you put on the map and the Shinkansen will appear to go faster than the 200 MPH.

Re:
Hey, it took almost 4 months but that is now a germane comment. The FIRST scheduled train service to run at more than 200 mph starts this friday, beating out the French trains. 350 kph = 218 mph.Warll wrote:I don't know if this will be a big problem but may I point out that SMR has a rather low speed cap?

Of course, all the rest of the world's trains run at less than 200 mph, still.
