Lake Michigan West SAM Version 2

This map contains 3 Eras running from 1930 to 2000. It contains a lot of new material - new industries, traincars, engines, etc. The map area runs roughly from Chicago, Illinois north to Sheboygan, Wisconsin and west to the Mississippi River. This is a single player map. This is a SAM (Stand Alone Map). Download the files and then unzip the Lake_Michigan_West_v2.7z.001 file into a clean Usermaps folder and the rest of the Lake_Michigan_West_v2 files should automatically unzip to the same location. Then unzip the LMW_Readme_v2.7z file to whatever location you wish in order to view the Readme file and the LMW Goods List.txt file included with it. The LMW Goods List file is in rtf format and was created with WordPad. Any program handling rtf format should open it. I have completed the vistory conditions from each of the starting locations at the Investor level. Testing at higher levels has not been tried. There is a readme file you should take a look at.

This map is about track control. There are no crossover bridges. You must guide your trains to their destination using switches as necessary. This is a 17 x 17 map.

Version 2 enhancements:

1. There is now an Eras file to control what music is heard.
2. The lighthouses on the map have been converted to industries from decorations so that they will not disappear when a saved map is loaded.
3. The compilation of the files has been changed to eliminate startup issues.

Enjoy.

After further testing it seems that for some, startup issues remain. However, most folks have been able to get it running after a few tries. So, if at first you don't succeed ...

Update: I have updated the version 1 CNW Oil Car after Karsten discovered a problem with the normal file. It was the old NRML vs NORM problem. I'm just surprised that I did not find it earlier. Just unzip the file into the traincars folder and tell the corrected nif file to overwrite the old one.

End of game - last train!
End of game - last train!
As we can see, those lighthouses now stay put (Screenshot 1). Good idea - light production. Very professional-looking production chain chart! 8)

There is only one small glitch with the oil cars (Screenshot 2), otherwise everthing ran perfectly - I could still complete the map at Tycoon level (starting in Savanna).

The intermittent crash on loading a save file seemed to be fixed once I followed a tip in the Basin and Range discussion by Lowell: after I changed to "Precache = 0" in my Settings.ini file, the problem apparently was solved! :D Way to go!!

Good catch Karsten. I'm not sure how I missed it. It's the old NORM vs NRML normal file thing. I have added this update to the listing above. Here's another copy. Just open the attached zip file in the traincars folder and tell the corrected nif file to overwrite the existing one. Thanks again for testing this.

Not sure if or when updates were last made to map file, but I looked through everything it unpacked and found no readme file. I'll give it a shot and see how she runs. Hopefully good as looks to be a lot of fun
