New Scenario based on Stormfather's America Map

Post by Cato58 » Wed Aug 29, 2007 10:03 pm

Here is a scenario I built using Stormfather's America Map.

Stormfather - Hope you don't mind my use of your map.

Just unzip the file into a scenario subdirectory.

Thanks for doing a scenario for this map.

To be honest I got bored shipping passagers all over the place and It may have been me but I had one train going to point B and then to get passangers back to point A I needed another train.

See some of the other maps could use vistors maybe customised trains.

The America Map by Stormfather's is a great map and I ended up just building a empire.

My Gold shipped ok and for dick810 you may have some missing bits in the xml's check what maps you have installed - maybe basin and range is needed?

I think you have to have Stormfather's America installed as I believe it uses an alternative Gold Mine.

Thanks a lot for your version of this map, but please make your instructions fool-proof.
With 'a scenario subdirectory', do you mean we have to create our own folder
in .../mydocuments/My Games/Sid Meier's Railroads!/UserMaps ?

Put it in .../mydocuments/My Games/Sid Meier's Railroads!/UserMaps or .../mydocuments/My Games/Sid Meier's Railroads!/CustomAssets/XML/_SCENARIOS_ depending on where you store yours.

I'm correct 97% of the time..... who cares about the other 4%....

Worked great.
It was quite a challenge to have cities produce the amount of passengers needed.
Thanks a lot for your work.

Cool map, I just gave it a try and it's fun to play my map with another artist's twist on it.

My map does use a different goldmine, I changed the footprint to a desert so it would blend it better with arid locations, and so it would look different from iron mines.

Posted at the top post a revised Events file that sometimes caused the game to crash.
Also please note that the industries are randomly placed by the game. Therefore you might find that some industries are missing in your game. It will be there in the subsequent games.
This game is about passenger traffic. So, if you want to make money you have to upgrade your depots and stations to Terminals.

We had some problems with America_s02.SAM. It appeared to be an “Events” file problem. (Random industries, too many events) It crashed early in the game.
I’ve revised the Events file ( Passengers, Mail and Global events). It still crashed, but at a later date.
So I took the liberty to take the file from BR and compare it with the Simple variation – line by line - .
Here is what I come up with;

DEPOTS: Simple: lumber Mill twice (2X)
BR…………………………none (0X)

EVENTS: Simple: Minimal.
BR. Too many. (Since it is Random industries, it might cause problem).

I am not quite sure that the duplicate (or the lack of it) Lumber Mill depot will cause a crash, but I have corrected it and it is uploaded in the first post.
Since it is all basic stock industries, we don’t even need a Depot file.
