I will echo that sentiment. I have been using the UserMaps folder for some time now with great success.

Yes...one gig of ram should be enough to run the game and all maps.

I have 4gig because I use LightWave by NewTek. I need the render speed, and run several apps at once. LightWave is similar to 3D Max {better} I have been studying to be a special effects artist for the film industry...game mods are my hobby. I have a couple others going at the moment. However I am making several engines/cars/buildings to import to the game. I will post all my work at this forum.

I found that the "auto installers" unzip the maps into the custom assets/scenario folder.

On several tests with this map I found...
After 4 hours of building/playing the game will start to CTD. Open the game back up and every 4min the game will CTD ... every time on the dot.
So...I moved the map file folder to the user maps folder...opened up the very map that was crash city...and wha-la! The map ran all night while I was asleep... Woke up and all was fine...even started to play again. I still have that map saved and runs great.

I was even able to get my double steam engines to pop up...the diesels were fine, but the steam doubles won't show up until the files are out of the Scenario folder. Something weird about that scenario folder...can't quite figure that one out yet.

EDIT// As you may have guessed the tests were done in train table mode.

Easy...

Just like the diesels...
<Train>
<szName>TAG_NAME_CONSOLIDATION_DUAL</szName>
<Year>1880</Year>
<szManufacturerName>Baldwin</szManufacturerName>
<szModel>2-8-0_Consolidation.kfm</szModel>
<szDummyModel>2-8-0_Consolidation_dummies.nif</szDummyModel>
<szTenderCar>2-8-0_Consolidation_set</szTenderCar>
<a little bit more stuff then /Train>

<TenderCar>
<szName>2-8-0_Consolidation_set</szName>
<szModel>2-8-0_Consolidation.kfm</szModel>
<szDummyModel>2-8-0_Consolidation_dummies.nif</szDummyModel>
<szGroundClackSound>AS3D_CLACK_PLANET_GROUND</szGroundClackSound>
<szBridgeClackSound>AS3D_CLACK_PLANET_BRIDGE</szBridgeClackSound>
<RunLength>34</RunLength>
</TenderCar>

The coal tenders cannot be used as the second engine is the tender. A separate new model loco will need to be made where the coal tender "is part of" the loco model; maybe add a pivot as if It were a third truck. Then two locos "with" coal tenders can be made. I also want a Vandy tender made as well.
Then I go into the Trains global file and give the power, speed a small nudge for the dual set.
:)

Here's a screenshot... Image

Here is how I constructed the valley area...

Hi Lowell,
your steam roster sounds great! Why not post a picture or two of the engines in action (preferably on the Arizona map, of course! :D )

Can you be a little more specific on how you got the steam doubles to work? I keep trying but keep getting knocked back to my desktop. :lol: What do you put in here? <a little bit more stuff then /Train>

I think I got this one

Post by Slappy Da Clown » Mon Apr 09, 2007 4:04 pm

Hey guys

Retried this one. I have determined there is a problem concerning mail in this map. As soon as you try to haul some it crashes. Tested several times same result. Im sure on of you smart guys can figure it out.

The map was missing the Mail Car. I forgot to mention that.
Add this in your Arizona TrainCars file list that is inside the Arizonia Senerio files. You can list it just under the Passenger list...like this...

<TrainCar>
<szName>Passenger Car</szName>
</TrainCar>
<TrainCar>
<szName>Mail Car</szName>
</TrainCar>

<TrainCar>
<szName>Coal Car</szName>
</TrainCar>

You can copy paste the green highlighted script...paste that just under the passenger car or somewhere inside the list of cars. Make sure you have the beginning and end <Train> <szName>Mail Car</szName></TrainCar> So make sure when you copy paste you don't erase the <Train> or </Train> on anouther car as you add those lines... :D

EDIT//give me a sec and I will review how I link up the steam engines and give a better explantion.

Lowell - one solution to the tenders would be to create an engine (to be used as a tender) which consistes as 'Tender'+'Engine'+'Tender'. This gives both the second engine and a tender for both engines.
Then again, the 2-8-0 could be done up with the tender attached. I don't know what the reason was that they didn't do that in the first place. :roll:
I'm correct 97% of the time..... who cares about the other 4%....

:shock: Thanks, Slappy, dwax and Lowell. Somehow, despite hours and hours of testing, I never noticed that the mail car was missing. I guess there was some timestamp "magic". :?
