crash

Post by Slappy Da Clown » Tue Apr 10, 2007 11:10 pm

OK Guys

I took another look at this one. The following is a list of the last lines from the Netlog_0 file after each crash ( as Im thinking this is the event that crashes it ). It is all one game except the last as I tried one more game to see if it would produce the same event numbers. After starting from a save the game will run from 10 minutes to an hour before the next crash. Perhaps what Snoopy did for the Central Andes map would work here. It evidently didnt like the last save as it would not procede from there

.1st Crash
[31666.641] DBG: RANDOMEVENT: 3240

reloaded from save
[7543.000] DBG: RANDOMEVENT: 4061

reload from save
[7803.734] DBG: RANDOMEVENT: 238

reload from save
[8553.812] DBG: RANDOMEVENT: 2525

reload from save
[9700.046] DBG: RANDOMEVENT: 3631

after a 10 second run
reloaded from save
[9868.250] DBG: RANDOMEVENT: 6

another 10 second run
from same save point
[9989.218] DBG: RANDOMEVENT: 6

another 10 second run
from same save point
[10085.734] DBG: RANDOMEVENT: 6

New game start
1st crash
[12248.296] DBG: RANDOMEVENT: 2358

Remove the Tender Cars listing inside the TrainCars list...I highlighted what needs removed in green...
C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Railroads!\UserMaps\ALASKA\TrainCars.xml

<RRTTenderCars>
<TenderCar>
<szName>Norris Tender Car</szName>
</TenderCar>
<TenderCar>
<szName>Planet Tender Car</szName>
</TenderCar>
<TenderCar>
<szName>Beuth Tender Car</szName>
</TenderCar>
<TenderCar>
<szName>Patentee Tender Car</szName>
</TenderCar>
</RRTTenderCars>

Place/move the Alaska file folder from the Senerios folder over to the UserMaps file folder. Also I noticed that the Alaska file has two folders...an Alaska folder inside an Alaska folder...you only need the "main" folder with the files inside.

The map should run fine...

OK people, now we come to a slight problem with _SCENARIOS_ / UsersMaps usage......

NOTE: I am not in any way against how you store your maps!!

With the Tenders being brought up I am guessing that you did not use the Installer for installing this map. I say this because the Installer does not include the Tenders in the RRT_TrainCars XML. In earlier maps some things were found to be a problem and noted, but a repaired download may not have been done. Atanis' Installer usually has the problems fixed. If you are not using the Installers, you need to check first to see if the file you downloaded has been corrected (Edit notes under it) and then go over the thread after that point for fixes.

As I'm on the edge of a touchy subject here, I'll leave it at that and see what comes up.

Many thanx to Lowell for trying to help. But, all the maps on my game are installed using the installers. While I will edit small bits of code if someone provides a fix we have all invested considerable time in the installer method. I have a list of 5 or 6 maps only that crash & I have spent considerable time on each one to determine the reason for its crash.I also have a long list of maps that play just gr8. So. I know that its not the game or my computer causing these few maps to crash but the map itself. I test & retest these maps for 2 reasons. I like to play them & I dont know enough about the coding part( & dont have enough brains cells left to learn ) to help any other way. In the Central Andes map snoopy was able to provide a fix for random event crashes that works. Its my contention this map has those same kind of crashes. I`ll wait to see if someone finds a fix that doesnt invole moving my files. But, again Thanx for makin an effort we always need more interested people.

Slappy, which are the ones that crash. I'll take a look at them. Also, check over in Strategys and see if the thread I started engages your last lonely brain cells enough to make some changes :lol:

Slappy - this map used the original Events XML so I set up stripped US and Europe Events XMLs and edited one for this map then made the change in the Senario XML. Stick them in your map and try them out. The Scenario XML only has the Event XML name changed so it won't cause a problem.

Looking at the Events files makes me want to look into adding some for the new Goods we have. :twisted:

Yes...I remember I downloaded your zip of the map...I didn't use the installer...that must have been where I found the list of tenders.

I'm still not sure about the two locations for the maps files yet...really only been digging deep for a couple weeks. I am about to make a huge Great Northern mod with passenger trains, freight and the works...I'm sure I am about to get "broke-in" here real soon. :)

The only problem I see with using the UserMaps for map storage (and I ain't throwing a fit about how anyone does theirs) is that if you're working on building a map it gets a bit crowded in there. The game appears to work better depending on where some people put theirs.

my 5 cents worth is I have moved all my maps to the UserMaps folder and things just seem to be working more smoothly. Yeah its a bit crowded but think that that looks a better place to have modded maps.

If anyone can debug a map it would be Snoop or Ceebee. I am happy you took over fixing my maps Snoop. Don't think there is really a more qualified person in the RR scene for it. I prob won't return to RR due the CTDs I still get so your more than welcome to change the maps and do what you want with them.

Hey d53642 you should try some of the latest maps and installers.

CTD's are not that common now once all the map xml's got fixed and we all learnt what to look at and what to change and got your head round things.

Look at the 15x15 American Transcontinental Railroad UPDATED map.

The double dual trains that we now have.

I can play several of the latest maps with no CTD's

I think you have written off SMR to quickly! Please come back.

Thanks Daryl. I really enjoy working with this group and this game. There is a lot of input here.

And speaking of playing with otherpeoples maps, Friday I figured out something that should make things a bit more interesting here. My 2 oldest grandchildren had my computers for the weekend, but I'm eagerly back....... :P
