I have no idea why you think giving priority to custom assets could break maps. It would make Mac SMR load the custom map's xml files instead of using the stock xml. This fix will make Mac SMR act like how Windows SMR works.

It fixes the bug. It does this by leveraging the set property of dictionaries. A less elegant solution would be to manually note if a file was a custom asset.

@Snoopy: Once Feral Iterative fixes the loading priority there will be no need to update the timestamps. Either way if you are going to update the timestamps please atleast set them to something far future like 3013

I would not discourage the research work that Snoopy and others are doing.

Thanks to JRMacSMR, we rediscovered the major significance of timestamp priorities. By removing this issue, other potential misalignments can be uncovered (eg is there an issue with the music files or not). And importantly, Mac users can start playing our maps in confidence now, once tested and found to work.

As a long run solution, prioritizing the user content without relying on the timestamp would be more efficient - if and when Feral Interactive get around to implementing such a patch. But the risk is that all testing activity could shudder to a halt on this site and be conducted exclusively elsewhere.

So I hope JRMacSMR goes on testing, and sharing his results with us! :D

Sorry I did not mean we should stop testing. Feral interactive is counting on us to figure things out.

I will reaffirm karsten's thanks to JRMacSMR. This was a very mysterious bug and it took someone with the knowledge and I'm glad JRMacSMR was the right man in the right spot, to paraphrase the gman.

Hello folks!

I am new to this board, but I love SMR. Unfortunately, I have not been successful in running any of the custom maps. I have tried several, but SMR always crashes when I select the custom map. I have located correctly the user maps folder, I have even tried to change the time stamps with text edit, but it didnt work.

any ideas?

My system: MBP 2.6Ghz i7, 16GB 1600 Mhz DDR3 running 10.8.2.

grateful for all tips.

Alexander

Just to be sure - you are running a Mac version of SMR? :)

Yes, of course. And I love it.
As long as I use the regular maps and scenarios, no crashes.

Interestingly enough, SMR always crashes as long as I have one of these downloaded maps in the user folder irrespective of whether I actually select this scenario or one of the preprogrammed ones.

Well you must remove any custom maps that you have in the user folder, otherwise the game reads the xml files for the custom map and will crash every time.

I have problems with custom maps crashing too. I haven't tried every single map yet but only the following worked:

Alaska Early (worked until a certain time, strange)
San Francisco
Texas, Lone Star State
Ukraine

This map: Arizona_Canyon_V2_4_PcMac.zip, link below

has been specifically adjusted to run on Mac. Could you try it and let me know if it works, and if not, what happened?
Thanks!

Hi all Mac users. I had lots of problems when I upgraded to Yosemite, but reinstalled the game and this fixed them all
