SMR Map Shifter Beta
SMR Map Shifter Beta
EDIT: There is a new version here: http://www.smrsimple.com/2010/09/smr-map-shifter-c/
The past few days I've been at work rewriting the SMR Map Shifter. This version, well it doesn't have as many nasty bugs as the .net version.
The process should be as simple as possible for new users, which was a big goal. The main GUI contains only one button and some instructions. It should autodetect the smr folder to install maps to. It will also clean out the usermaps AND customassets folders before moving stuff in. It also remembers what folder you last found the map archive in.
The installer is attached please take it for a spin if you can and report back.
By default it installs to C:\\Program files(x86)\SMRMapShifter\, I have not yet figured out how to get the NSIS installer to create a desktop shortcut.

Re: SMR Map Shifter Beta
it doesn't work for me. It installs fine, but when I click the 'select map archive' button, nothing happens. I'm expecting a file selector. is there some setting that I'm missing?

Re: SMR Map Shifter Beta
Wow fantastic idea - what a installer.
Ran it through it paces on several maps and actually works. (sorry Im not suprised by your work its more this grrr game)
Some maps as .rar didnt work
But for a standard map / SAM map that just places the goods in the UserMaps folder it removes and adds coorectly.
Issues seem to be some of the older maps that used other folders.
For example didnt remove this folder. But this folder is not a standard folder and you cant code something that you dont know about.
Well done will be using this for all my map installs.

Re: SMR Map Shifter Beta
Thank guys.
Thanks to SAMs and Stand Alone maps installation is quite standardized. The problem I wanted to address with the installer was primarly a assesibility one. People have no problem installing some program but the moment you ask them to do something manually a very large percentage simply walk away.
I was quite conservative with what I deleted. We only delete the custom assets and the usermaps folders. Unfortunatly I've heard at least one report of this destroying someone's in construction map.
