Yup, from our main page:
----

Hi all,

Our apologies for having been down for so long. The server on which the HG sites are hosted had a mainboard failure and it proved a long process to replace it. Murphy reigns supreme, but at least we're back in the air!

So was I. These things happen but... nearly 13 hours of downtime... We've never been gone for longer than maybe an hour or 2 and even that's been rare. Any withdrawl symptoms? I know I had :)

Maybe the Easter Bunny thought he could use your server to distribute his eggs?

This raises a concern here snoopy55.

If this forum shut up shop we would loose a wealth of info!

All the maps and locos for new people.

Do we have a backup plan?

In case this site decides to move on to the next game do we have a backup plan to move data?

Should we seek a backup option - whats everyone elses thoughts?

Thanks snoopy55 - I did mean you in a way as a lot of this content on here is from you. I was looking for your opion.

Im looking or putting out there if this forum folded where to from here?

I presume you have backups etc.

Falconer I dont want to imply there is anything wrong with this forum, hosting company as this service is brillant and a great forum, just do we have a backup plan.

I know we will all move on to other things so prob looking for assurance if we post stuff here and on the wiki it will be here for the foreseeable future.

Anyone started there own fan web site?

There are options on the forum, at least I have them on mine. you can back up the data base. Then you save that file in case you have a hard crash and loose it. Problem is, you never get it all back depending how often you back up the data base. :)

Yup, there are backups and, don't worry, we're not going anywhere. :)

We love doing this, building fansites, fanforums and running hookedgamers.com. We have in the past closed fansites that weren't succesful and basically had nothing to offer.

If a site has blossomed at some point, we'll keep it alive for ever. A good example is hookedonpirates.com that (after years!) is finally starting to slow down in actual visitor numbers. It provides a vital role in the history of Sid's Pirates! as it was the first fansite, the most active fansite and has the largest database of Pirates! mods. Its legacy will remain online for all those who want to play the game years and years from now. :)

Another site, hookedonageofpirates.com failed (the game failed) and will likely disappear sometimes soon, and hookedonstronghold.com already did (game wasn't very good but our launch window for it sucked as well). There's no additional value of keeping those open.

The Railroads! fanforum is successful and there is no site that offers the same amount of information, insights and downloads. It's not going anywhere. Ever. :)

There are, or kinda were, other forums for Railroads!, but they have kinda died down. This one is the best for finding the answers to your questions or getting the answers. Mant people have refered to this site, and I myself have done some of that refering.

Keep up the great work Falconer, and tell the others working with you that they're doing a great job :D
