Re: Mac User issues Thread

Brilliant!!! I think you have hit the nail on the head, and us seasoned PC players did not realize the "obvious": All PC mods automatically have a newer timestamp relative to the system files, so they automatically take precedence over the system files. With the Mac version, its just the opp...

Re: SMR x RTC?

I do miss the multiple choice and conditional statements, which trigger events and consequences, eg "achieve a certain goal before year xx to collect a bonus". Some of the features you mention have been recreated by determined map makers, although this knowledge is not documented in one place. - com...

Re: The Best Non-Goal Oriented Map

Why don't you get the discussion started by mentioning the one or two maps you liked especially - with some pointers to what makes them special. Then map makers could figure out how to create some more :D

Re: Westeros_SAM

OK, hope you find the time to get back to the map. :D I restarted, and with more focus, I finished most of the goals - but I do think that the start is perhaps too difficult for the average player even on Investor level. Some of the coal mines are submerged in water and unreachable. There are no cat...

Re: Westeros_SAM

That is a lot of progress in short time! But it could be better: Have you tested the feasibility of the map yourself? I started out in the south and could not complete the first era on easy Investor level. OK, maybe I was not focussed, but still.. :? There is no map-specific events file, that will l...

Re: Westeros (GoT)

I think it would be important to invest time into creating a good scenery environment for this.

Re: Westeros (GoT)

Well you could run Jancsika's Middle Earth map (and the New Sosaria map by CalmDragon) and see whether you can envisage something similar (or better!) for Westeros. I have some difficulty seeing the "magic" of steam engines and rails in the Song of Ice and Fire environment, but probably I am wrong :D

Re: US_Southeast Version 2

DONE! Finished Robber Baron 13 years early. I was very lucky in getting the two crucial patents (cheap maintenance and cheap tracks) right at the start (see screenshot) , and a few early mayoral offers also came in handy. The map has tremendous replayability now. First even Investor is a c...

Re: US_Southeast Version 2

I enjoyed the version 2, with the even better custom content and improved interesting landscape. I don't think its possible to complete at Robber Baron level, the bridges are just too expensive. As Tycoon I managed the first two eras, although with difficulty. Quite a challenge! 8) The next two eras...

Re: New Map - US_Southeast

Well, I'm not a fan of ripping out tracks and relaying them, especially in the sluggish end-phase of a map, but your routing looks quite manageable. :P Let's see how it goes!

Re: Mac User issues Thread

When I ran Devon (the copy available on our map database) yesterday, it crashed to desktop within 20 minutes. I then unpacked the .fpk and restarted today, and it ran without a blip to finish all victory conditions (check out that massive Plymouth conglomeration in the screenshot!). :D I also note t...

Re: Mac User issues Thread

I would be helpful if you
  • extract a map .fpk beforehand from one of the troublesome maps,
  • then delete the .fpk and add the expanded files to the map folder (ideally in a subfolder called "assets")
  • and then try to start the map.

Re: Mac User issues Thread

Some of the older SAM maps still have .fpk files, which may not unpack correctly - have you checked for those :( Let us know! :D
