Depends for me, if the new company really stretches into areas I am not In I will merge and clean it up but if I bought them out to corner my market I usually merge them unless I want a new station in a city I already have one.

The engines are controled by the RRT_TRAINS_MAPNAME.XML file. What ever trains you put in this file is what you get in game. Just check some other maps to see how its done.

You I used paintshop in the early days to make maps. You can also go into the editor and do like you said, Make a map save it then use a good paint program to import the new image in. With Paintshop or Photoshop you can use snap to grid to make sure you got it in the right spot. But the sizes defini...

The map doesn't actually have to be a greyscale. It can be color too but it will take more work to fix a color map over a true grey scale one. The first time you use the editor it will grey scale. But it its a color map the light colors are usually ground and darker colors are mtns and it will make ...

Ceebee the actual sizes are always 601 901 701 etc

Also you can import into the greyscale if they are the same sizes. You may need to stretch or shrink a map to get it to the right map pixel size though. How do you think I made my early maps before Nov when I got the map editor.

Under XML you should have RRT_Goods.xml, RRT_Patents.xml, RRT_TrainCars.xml and RRT_Trains.xml. One problem here is that some of these have been modified and if not may cause problems I know where to get TrainCars and Trains (MidEast-Santa files?) But where to get the Patents file? Mike I know ther...

CeeBee - call it patting myself on the back if you wish, but go the the SMR Wiki and read the 'Tips for publishing your mods' section. I wrote the base for it and Falconer edited it (a great job by the way) and it gives a base for dos and don'ts and needs. I think I need to add to it, but I'm tired...

CeeBee - I did a post on Daryls Mid East that might help you out in mapping also. And it's not so much of a 'simplicity for public sake' as a 'let them know what is required to run the map'. You have yours using the Santa maps' engine so that map is needed, or a change to the RRT_Trains.xml. Some o...

I also tried playing the map with default game resources and it crashes for me either way Ceebee. I think its my system causing the crashes though. I have a fair amount of background stuff running.

Is this what you are trying to do Ceebee. Get all three mines going. :D Also the game will make anywhere between 1-4 mines of each type. Also the problem you were having was you had the steel mill out there Ceebee, Steel mill makes coal in steel. All I did was removed the Steel Mill for the Iron Mil...

I tried that on my end Snoop and it still did not help. I made it exactly like a the british map hoping that would do it but to no avail.

I am also in the process of updating the Maritimes map but it is also unstable for me now and it used to work flawless for me before.
